Epiroc AB is a Swedish manufacturer of mining and infrastructure equipment. It is headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden and has its manufacturing facilities in Sweden, United States, Canada, Australia, China, India, Japan and Germany. History Epiroc has its roots in Atlas Copco, which was founded in 1873 in Stockholm. It was created as a result of Atlas Copco's decision to split out its legacy business of mining equipment. Atlas Copco began to produce rock drills in 1905. In January 2017, Atlas Copco's Board of Directors decided to propose to the Annual General Meeting that the company be divided, and that the mining and infrastructure business be listed as its own separate company in 2018. Ronnie Leten (born 12 December 1956) is a Belgian businessman. In 2018, Leten became the chairman of Ericsson and Epiroc. Career Ronnie Leten graduated from the University of Hasselt, in 1979, with a master's degree in Business Administration. Leten began his working career at General Biscuit Belgie BVBA ('LU') from 1979-1985. He joined Atlas Copco, Belgium, in 1985. After a short period as production manager for Tenneco Automotive, he came back to Atlas Copco in 1995. Between 1999-2001 he was president of the Airtec division. Raise Borer
A raise borer is a machine used in underground mining, to excavate a circular hole between two levels of a mine without the use of explosives. The raise borer is set up on the upper level of the two levels to be connected, on an evenly laid platform (typically a concrete pad). A small-diameter hole (pilot hole) is drilled to the level required; the diameter of this hole is typically 230mm - 445mm (9" - 17.5"), large enough to accommodate the drill string. Once the drill has broken into the opening on the target level, the bit is removed and a reamer head, of the required diameter of the excavation, is attached to the drill string and raised back towards the machine.
