Elmer E. Ellsworth
Elmer Ephraim Ellsworth (April 11, 1837 – May 24, 1861) was a United States Army officer and law clerk who was the first conspicuous casualty and the first Union officer to die in the American Civil War. He was killed while removing a Confederate flag from the roof of the Marshall House (Alexandria, Virginia), Marshall House inn in Alexandria, Virginia.(1) (2) Before the war, Ellsworth led a touring military drill team, the "Zouave Cadets of Chicago". He was a close personal friend of Abraham Lincoln, who as President of the United States, President later eulogized him as "the greatest little man I ever met". After his death, Ellsworth's body lay in state at the White House. The phrase, "Remember Ellsworth", became a rallying cry and call to arms for the Union Army. Malta, New York
Malta is a town in Saratoga County, New York, United States. The town is in the central part of the county and is south of Saratoga Springs. The population was 17,130 as of the 2020 census. Malta, along with Stillwater, is home to the Luther Forest Technology Campus, a site designed for semiconductor and nanotechnology manufacturing and other innovative technologies. This campus includes GlobalFoundries, a company specializing in the semiconductor industry, which in April 2021 moved its headquarters from Silicon Valley, California to its semiconductor-chip manufacturing facility in Saratoga County near a section of the Adirondack Northway, in Malta.
