Eliyahu Meridor
Eliyahu Meridor ( he, אליהו מרידור, 20 July 1914 – 16 October 1966) was an Israeli politician who served as a member of the Knesset for Herut and Gahal from 1959 until his death in 1966. Biography Meridor was born Elijhu Wierzbolowski on 20 July 1914 in Saint Petersburg in the Russian Empire (now in Russia), Meridor was educated at a Tarbut school in Grajewo in Poland, before studying law at the University of Warsaw. He also became a member of the local branch of Betar. In 1936 he immigrated to Mandatory Palestine, where he worked as a lawyer. He joined the Irgun, and was a commander in Jerusalem, as well as being a member of the organisation's command. He was arrested by the British authorities and exiled to Africa. In 1948 he was amongst the founders of the Herut movement, and chaired its Jerusalem branch. In 1959 he was elected to the Knesset on the party's list. Dan Meridor ( he, דן מרידור, born 23 April 1947) is an Israeli politician and minister. A longtime member of the Likud party, in the late 1990s he became one of the founders of the Centre Party. He rejoined Likud a decade later, and returned to the Knesset following the 2009 elections. Meridor served at various times as Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Finance, Minister of Justice and Minister of Intelligence and Atomic Energy in the Israeli Cabinet. In 2014, Meridor succeeded Avi Primor as president of the Israel Council on Foreign Relations, an institute of international affairs which operates under the auspices of the World Jewish Congress. The Betar Movement ( he, תנועת בית"ר), also spelled Beitar (), is a Revisionist Zionist youth movement founded in 1923 in Riga, Latvia, by Vladimir (Ze'ev) Jabotinsky. Chapters sprang up across Europe, even during World War II. After the war and during the settlement of what became Israel, Betar was traditionally linked to the original Herut and then Likud political parties of Jewish pioneers. It was closely affiliated with the pre-Israel Revisionist Zionist paramilitary group Irgun Zevai Leumi. It was one of many right-wing movements and youth groups arising at that time that adopted special salutes and uniforms. Eli Hurvitz ( he, אלי הורביץ born 27 November 1970) is the Executive Director of the Trump Foundation, which "aims to serve as a catalyst for improving educational achievement in Israel in Mathematics and the Sciences" and former member of the Israel National Board of Education.
