Elio Petri
Eraclio Petri (29 January 1929 – 10 November 1982), commonly known as Elio Petri, was an Italian film director, screenwriter, theatre director, and critic associated with the political cinema in the 1960s and '70s. His film ''Investigation of a Citizen Above Suspicion'' won the 1971 Oscar for Best Foreign-Language Film, and his film '' The Working Class Goes to Heaven'' won the Palme d'Or at the 1972 Cannes Film Festival. Petri's other notable films include ''The 10th Victim'' (1965), ''We Still Kill the Old Way'' (1967), '' A Quiet Place in the Country'' (1968), '' Property Is No Longer a Theft'' (1973), and '' Todo modo'' (1976). Carlo Lizzani (3 April 1922 – 5 October 2013) was an Italian film director, screenwriter and critic. ''Bitter Rice'' ( it, Riso Amaro ) is a 1949 Italian film made by Lux Film, written and directed by Giuseppe De Santis. Produced by Dino De Laurentiis, starring Silvana Mangano, Raf Vallone, Doris Dowling and Vittorio Gassman, ''Bitter Rice'' was a commercial success in Europe and the United States. Giuseppe De Santis (11 February 1917 – 16 May 1997) was an Italian film director. One of the most idealistic Neorealism (art), neorealist filmmakers of the 1940s and 1950s, he wrote and directed films punctuated by ardent cries for social reform. He was the brother of Italian cinematographer Pasqualino De Santis. His wife was Gordana Miletic (native spelling: Miletić), a Yugoslav actress and former ballet dancer.
