Thornlands is a coastal residential locality in the City of Redland, Queensland, Australia. In the , Thornlands had a population of 14,694 people. The area is now primarily suburban residences, with the southern parts rural residences, comprising larger landblocks. The population is growing rapidly due to new housing developments. Geography Thornlands is located approximately east-south-east of Brisbane, the capital of the Queensland. Major access to Thornlands is provided by Boundary Road, Cleveland-Redland Bay Road, or Wellington Street. It is predominantly used for residential purposes, but some parts in the south of the locality are still used for farming. History Thornlands began as part of the area then encompassed by Cleveland, and was leased (along with most of the land between Ormiston and the Logan River), to Joseph Clarke. The Liberal National Party of Queensland (LNP) is a major political party in Queensland, Australia. It was formed in 2008 by a merger of the Queensland divisions of the Liberal Party and the National Party. Peter James Dowling (born 12 August 1961) is an Australian politician. He was a Liberal National Party member of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland from 2009 to 2015, representing the electorate of Redlands. Dowling was born in Leicester, England. Before entering politics he was a labourer, painter and decorator and sales representative. In 2000, he was elected to Redland City Council representing Division 4, which covers Victoria Point and Coochiemudlo Island; he was deputy mayor 2006–08. John Joseph Hegarty (born 16 September 1947) is a former Australian politician. He was the National Party member for Redlands in the Legislative Assembly of Queensland from 1995 to 2001. Hegarty served in Vietnam from 1967 to 1968 and was part of the army reserve from 1969 to 1994. He was a commissioned officer from 1971. He also worked as an insurance consultant. Following his election in 1995, he was a National Party backbencher in the Borbidge Government. Darryl James Briskey (born 24 August 1955) is a former Australian politician. Born in Roma, Queensland, he was a teacher before entering politics. John Goleby
John Philip Goleby (22 March 1935 – 10 September 1985) was an Australian politician and farmer. A member of the National Party, he served in the Queensland Legislative Assembly for the electoral district of Redlands from 1974 until his death in 1985. Early life and career Goleby was born in Cleveland, Queensland, the son of Philip Eric Goleby and his wife Carolena Amelia (''née'' Holzapfel), and lived in the area all his life. He was educated at Mount Cotton and Thornlands state schools before attending Wynnum High School and, after finishing his education, worked on the family farm at Thornlands. He later bought a property at Mount Cotton and continued his farming career.
