''El Periódico de Catalunya'' (, ), also simply known as ''El Periódico'', is a morning daily newspaper based in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. The paper publishes separate daily editions in Spanish and in Catalan. The two editions combined sell more than 125,000 copies per day, making ''El Periódico'' the second highest-circulated newspaper in Spain's Catalan-speaking regions, behind ''La Vanguardia'' which also publishes in both languages. Nationally, ''El Periódico'' was Spain's fifth-highest circulation general-interest daily in 2011. History and profile ''El Periódico'' was first published on 26 October 1978 by Antonio Asensio Pizarro to offer a progressive Catalan paper connected to Catalan socialism. ''El Periódico de Aragón'' is an Aragonese daily newspaper, founded in Zaragoza, on 23 October 1990 by Juancho Dumall. It is published by the Grupo Zeta and whose information focuses primarily on Section Aragon, Opinion and Sports. History ''El Periódico de Aragón'' was born on 23 October 1990 and soon began to establish itself as the second largest newspaper in the community just behind the ''Heraldo de Aragón''. In 1997 opened a facility in central Newspaper Aragon in Zaragoza Street Hernán Cortés. The current director of the newspaper is Jaime Armengol, which replaced in 2003 Michelangelo Smooth, director since 1992. This replaced Dumall Juancho (primary responsibility of the newspaper). Progressive trend and completely independent, employs approximately 100 people, of which about 45 are in the newsroom. ''El Periódico'' is a daily Guatemalan newspaper founded by José Rubén Zamora on November 6, 1996. History Considered one of Central America's leading independent journalists, Zamora had left his previous paper, ''Siglo Veintiuno'', earlier in the year after a disagreement with the board of directors. He then founded ''Periódico'', funded by the donations of 125 citizens who supported his stand on press freedom. One year later, it was purchased by the owners of '' Prensa Libre'', Guatemala's best-selling newspaper. In 2001, the ''Periódico'' offices were attacked by a group of fifty protesters after reporting on alleged corruption in the staff of Communications Minister Luis Rabbé. The crowd attempted to force the building's doors and set it on fire, and Zamora was burned in effigy.
