''Eksperimentet'' ( en, The Experiment) is a 2010 Danish drama film written and directed by Louise Friedberg, and starring Ellen Hillingsø. The film premiered on 28 August 2010 in the Katuaq Culture Centre in Nuuk, the capital of Greenland. The release date of the film in Denmark was 9 September 2010. Background The film deals with the Little Danes experiment, a 1950s social experiment and the problem of cultural genocide in Greenland. In 1951 the Danish colonial authorities removed 22 Greenlandic Inuit children (9 girls and 13 boys), with dubious consent from their parents or guardians, from their homes, relocating them to Denmark for adoption and education. The selected children, aged between 6 and 8, came from disadvantaged families; the government planned for their adoption to integrate into the 'modern' Danish society with the aim of transforming the children into 'small Danes'. Ellen Hillingsø
Ellen Gunilla Hillingsø (born 9 March 1967) is a Danish actress who is known primarily for her work in films. She is also a voice actress, narrating audio books. Early life Ellen Gunilla Hillingsø was born on 9 March 1967 in Copenhagen to Kjeld Georg Hilligsøe Hillingsø, then a lieutenant in the Danish Royal Life Guards, and Ellen Birgitta Hillingsø (née Juel), an antiques dealer. Hillingsø's maternal grandfather was Gregers Juel, a chamberlain and a Knight (1st Class) of the Order of the Dannebrog. Her paternal uncle was Lars Hillingsø, a fashion designer and founder of the ''Lars Paris'' brand. Hillingsø has one sibling, Jens Georg, who is three years older. Jens works at the Rigshospitalet in Copenhagen and is a former chairman of Médecins sans Frontières. Career Primarily a film actress, Hillingsø made her debut in the farce '' Huller i suppen'' in 1988, playing a small role alongside the comic duo John and Aage ( Povl Erik Carstensen and Morten Lorentzen). ...

Little Danes Experiment
The little Danes experiment, also known simply as "the experiment", was a 1951 Denmark, Danish operation where 22 Greenlandic Inuit children ("experiment children") were sent to Danish foster families in an attempt to re-educate them as "little Danes". While the children were all supposed to be orphans, most were not. Six children were adopted while in Denmark, and sixteen returned to Greenland, only to be placed in Danish language, Danish-speaking orphanages and never live with their families again. Half of the children experienced mental health disturbances, and half of them died in young adulthood. The government of Denmark officially apologised in 2020, after several years of demands from Greenlandic officials.
