Edwin M. Stanley
Edwin Monroe Stanley (March 9, 1909 – December 23, 1971) was a United States district judge of the United States District Court for the Middle District of North Carolina. Education and career Born in Forsyth County, North Carolina, Stanley received a Bachelor of Laws from Wake Forest University School of Law in 1931. He was in private practice of law in Greensboro, North Carolina from 1931 to 1954. He was a Judge of the Greensboro Juvenile Court from 1951 to 1954. He was the United States Attorney for the Middle District of North Carolina from 1954 to 1957. Federal judicial service Stanley received a recess appointment from President Dwight D. Eisenhower on October 23, 1957, to a seat on the United States District Court for the Middle District of North Carolina vacated by Judge Johnson Jay Hayes. The United States District Court for the Middle District of North Carolina (in case citations, M.D.N.C.) is a United States district court with jurisdiction over 24 counties in the center of North Carolina. It consists of five divisions with a headquarters in Greensboro, North Carolina. Appeals from the Middle District of North Carolina are taken to the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit (except for patent claims and claims against the U.S. government under the Tucker Act, which are appealed to the Federal Circuit). Greensboro, North Carolina
Greensboro (; formerly Greensborough) is a city in and the county seat of Guilford County, North Carolina, United States. It is the third-most populous city in North Carolina after Charlotte and Raleigh, the 69th-most populous city in the United States, and the largest city in the Piedmont Triad metropolitan region. At the 2020 census, its population was 299,035. Three major interstate highways (Interstate 40, Interstate 85, and Interstate 73) in the Piedmont region of central North Carolina were built to intersect at this city. In 1808, Greensborough (the spelling before 1895) was planned around a central courthouse square to succeed Guilford Court House as the county seat. The United States Senate is the upper chamber of the United States Congress, with the House of Representatives being the lower chamber. In the United States, a recess appointment is an appointment by the president of a federal official when the U.S. Senate is in recess. Under the U.S. Constitution's Appointments Clause, the President is empowered to nominate, and with the advice and consent (confirmation) of the Senate, make appointments to high-level policy-making positions in federal departments, agencies, boards, and commissions, as well as to the federal judiciary.
