Edmonton North was a federal electoral district in Alberta, Canada, that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1979 to 2004. Demographics Geography The riding consisted of the northern part of the city of Edmonton, Alberta. History It was created in 1976 from parts of Edmonton Centre, Edmonton East, Edmonton West and Pembina ridings. It was abolished in 2003 when it was redistributed into Edmonton East, Edmonton—Sherwood Park and Edmonton—St. Albert ridings. An electoral district in Canada is a geographical constituency upon which Canada's representative democracy is based. This is a list of past arrangements of Canada's electoral districts. Each district sends one member to the House of Commons of Canada. In 1999 and 2003, the Legislative Assembly of Ontario was elected using the same districts within that province. 96 of Ontario's 107 provincial electoral districts, roughly those outside Northern Ontario, remain coterminous with their federal counterparts. This is a list of Canada's 338 federal electoral districts (commonly referred to as '' ridings'' in Canadian English) as defined by the ''2013 Representation Order''. Canadian federal electoral districts are constituencies that elect members of Parliament to Canada's House of Commons every election. Provincial electoral districts often have names similar to their local federal counterpart, but usually have different geographic boundaries. Canadians elected members for each federal electoral district most recently in the 2021 federal election on . Naomi Rankin (born c. 1953) is a Canadian politician and the leader of the Communist Party – Alberta since 1992. She is the longest-serving political party leader in the province, and has run as a perennial candidate in every federal and provincial election in Alberta since 1982. Political career Rankin became leader of the Communist Party in Alberta in 1992, after the collapse of the Soviet Union sent the party into crisis. Since 1982, she has run in every provincial and federal election for the Communist Party – Alberta and the Communist Party of Canada respectively. Rankin herself usually fields around 100 votes. In a typical election campaign, Rankin goes door-to-door and distributes pamphlets, as she tries to engage voters in discussions about the party's main platforms. Steve Paproski
Steve Paproski (23 September 1928 – 3 December 1993) was a Canadian politician and professional football player. He played in the Canadian Football League (CFL) from 1949 to 1954 and served as a federal Member of Parliament from 1968 to 1993. Early life Born in Lwów, Poland, he came to Edmonton, Alberta as a child. He attended the University of Arizona on a sports scholarship. John Loney
Edison John Clayton Loney (23 February 1929 – 22 January 2017) was a member of the House of Commons of Canada in the 1960s and again in the 1990s. His career has been in agriculture and business. Loney, a Progressive Conservative for most of his political career, first won a seat in Canadian Parliament during the 1963 federal election for the Bruce electoral district in Ontario. He was re-elected there in the 1965 federal election, but defeated in 1968. During this time, Loney served in the 26th and 27th Canadian Parliaments. Loney made further unsuccessful attempts to regain the Bruce riding in 1972 and 1974. He moved to Alberta and made another failed attempt to return to Parliament in the Edmonton North riding in the 1988 federal election. Raymond James Martin (born August 8, 1941) is a politician in Alberta, Canada and former member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta. Martin served four terms as an Alberta MLA and two terms as an Edmonton Public School Board Trustee. In 2018, Martin published his memoir, "''Made in Alberta: The Ray Martin Story''". The Progressive Conservative Party of Canada (PC; french: Parti progressiste-conservateur du Canada) was a centre-right federal political party in Canada that existed from 1942 to 2003.
