Ezio (Mysliveček, 1775)
''Ezio'' is an eighteenth-century Italian opera in 3 acts by the Czech composer Josef Mysliveček. It was the composer's first setting of a libretto by the Italian poet Metastasio that was first performed with music by Pietro Auletta in 1728, one of the most popular of the Metastasian librettos in Mysliveček's day. The story is based on incidents from the lives of the 5th-century Roman emperor Valentinian III and his general Flavius Aetius, Aetius. For a performance in the 1770s, it would only be expected that a libretto of such age would be abbreviated and altered to suit contemporary operatic taste. The cuts and changes in the text made for the 1775 performance of Mysliveček's opera are not attributable. All of Mysliveček's operas are of the serious type in Italian language referred to as opera seria. Johann Christian Bach
Johann Christian Bach (5 September 1735 – 1 January 1782) was a German composer of the Classical era, the youngest son of Johann Sebastian Bach. He received his early musical training from his father, and later from his half-brother, Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach in Berlin. After his time in Berlin he made his way to Italy to study with famous Padre Martini in Bologna. While in Italy, J.C. Bach was appointed as an organist at the Milan Cathedral. In 1762 he became a composer to the King’s Theatre in London where he wrote a number of successful Italian operas and became known as "The English Bach". He is responsible for the development of the sinfonia concertante form. Anna Lucia de Amicis (c. 1745–1816) was an Italian soprano. Life and career The daughter of tenor Domenico de Amicis and soprano Rosalba Baldacci, Anna Lucia de Amicis was born in Naples, Italy in c.1745. She had her initial vocal training from her parents and later studied with Vittoria Tesi. She made her professional opera debut in Pisa in the Spring of 1754 at the age of nine in Geronimo Cordella’s ''Il cicisbeo impertinente''.
