MSC Cruises () is a Swiss-Italian global cruise line based in Geneva, with operations offices in Naples, Genoa and Venice. It was founded in 1988 in Naples, Italy, as part of the Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC). In addition to being the world's largest privately held cruise company, employing about 23,500 people worldwide and with offices in 45 countries , MSC Cruises is the third-largest cruise company in the world, after Carnival Corporation & plc and Royal Caribbean Group, with a 10% share of all passengers carried in 2025. Festival Cruises
Festival Cruises (known as First European Cruises in North America) was a Greece-based cruise line that operated between 1994 and 2004. It was founded in 1992 by the Greek entrepreneur George Poulides using second-hand ships. The company acquired three new-built ships between 1999 and 2002, but was forced to declare bankruptcy in 2004. History George Poulides founded Festival Cruises in 1992. Chantiers De L'Atlantique
Chantiers de l'Atlantique is a shipyard in Saint-Nazaire, Saint-Nazaire, France. It is one of the world's largest shipyards, constructing a wide range of commercial, naval, and passenger ships. It is located near Nantes, at the mouth of the Loire, Loire river and the deep waters of the Atlantic Ocean, Atlantic, which make the sailing of large ships in and out of the shipyards easy. The shipyard was owned by Alstom from 1976 onwards, became Alstom-Atlantique, and was later part of Aker Yards when Aker ASA, Aker Group acquired the Alstom Marine business in 2006. In 2008, the South Korean company STX Corporation acquired Aker Yards, and the shipyard became part of STX Europe (formed by the renaming of Aker Yards). After the bankruptcy of STX Corporation, the shipyard was acquired by the French government and reverted to its original name of Chantiers de l'Atlantique. Premier Cruise Lines
Premier Cruise Lines, a subsidiary of Premier Cruises, was a cruise line headquartered in Cape Canaveral, Florida. From 1985 to 1993, it was licensed as the official cruise line of Walt Disney World and used the trademark "The Big Red Boat" based on the color scheme of some of its ships. Company history Premier Cruise Line was formed in 1983 by A.E. "Ed" Merhige (Florida Export Warehouse/International Cruise Shops) and Bruce Nierenberg (NCL), two cruise veterans. The lines first ship was the former ''Federico C'' from Costa Cruises, and renamed '' Royale.'' In 1985 the line would purchase their second ship the ''Oceanic'' from Home Lines, and in 1988, the ''Atlantic'' replacing the ''Royale''. Also in 1988 the line would also expand further purchasing the ''Sun Princess'' from Princess Cruises, renaming the ship the ''Majestic''. MS Melody
MS ''Melody'' was a cruise ship, formerly owned and operated by MSC Cruises. She was built in 1982 by the CNIM shipyard in La Seyne, France for Home Lines as ''Atlantic''. Between 1988 and 1997 she sailed for Premier Cruise Line as ''StarShip Atlantic''. In 1997, the vessel entered service for MSC Cruises as ''Melody''. In 2009 she repelled a pirate attack off Seychelles. She ended her career as an accommodation ship ''Qing'', during which she sank in storm at her berth, and was scrapped in 2019.
