Exhorder is an American heavy metal music, heavy metal band from New Orleans, Louisiana, New Orleans, Louisiana. They are considered progenitors of the groove (music), groove-oriented Thrash metal, thrash sound later made famous by bands such as Pantera and Machine Head (band), Machine Head, and their music has been regarded as a large influence on the Music of New Orleans#Heavy metal, New Orleans metal scene. Initially active from 1985 to 1994 and reformed from 2008 to 2011, Exhorder has since reformed in 2017. Pantera () is an American Heavy metal music, heavy metal band formed in Arlington, Texas in 1981 by the Abbott brothers (guitarist Dimebag Darrell and drummer Vinnie Paul), and currently composed of vocalist Phil Anselmo, bassist Rex Brown, and touring musicians Zakk Wylde and Charlie Benante. The group's best-known lineup consisted of the Abbott brothers along with Brown and Anselmo, who joined in 1982 and 1986, respectively. The band is credited for developing and popularizing the subgenre of groove metal in the 1990s. ''Slaughter in the Vatican'' is the debut studio album by American heavy metal band Exhorder, released in 1990 by R/C Records. It was reissued by Roadrunner in 2003 in a double-disc package with the band's follow-up album '' The Law'' and reissued again in 2008. The album saw the band compared with Pantera, with AllMusic commenting on its "death metal-style double kick drums, chugging guitar riffs played at both slow and blistering tempos, and, to top it all off, the gruff but very expressive lead vocals of frontman Kyle Thomas". Mourn The Southern Skies
''Mourn the Southern Skies'' is the third studio album by American metal band Exhorder, released on September 20, 2019 through Nuclear Blast. It is the band's first studio release in 27 years, after their 1992 album '' The Law''. This is also the last album to feature founding lead guitarist Vinnie LaBella, who left the band in February 2020, and their only album with rhythm guitarist Marzi Montazeri, who would leave Exhorder two years later. ''The Law'' is the second studio album by American heavy metal band Exhorder, released on March 15, 1992 through Roadrunner Records. Compared to previous release ''Slaughter in the Vatican'', the band's sound became much more groove metal-oriented while still retaining much of its thrash roots. It was reissued by Roadrunner in 2003 in a two-disc set with ''Slaughter in the Vatican'' and again in 2008. The music of New Orleans assumes various styles of music which have often borrowed from earlier traditions. New Orleans is especially known for its strong association with jazz music, universally considered to be the birthplace of the genre. Jason VieBrooks (born August 9, 1971) is an American touring bassist and guitarist. He has toured the world with many heavy metal groups, and is an endorsee of Esh Bass. Biography Born on August 9, 1971, in Cincinnati, Ohio, VieBrooks graduated from Hamilton High School in 1989. He started playing bass in 1987 and wanted to pursue a career in music, so after graduating high school he moved to San Francisco Bay Area and met Craig Locicero from the band Forbidden. Through Locicero he was introduced to Lee Altus of Heathen and was invited down to audition. That went well and he spent the next few years in Heathen until the band went on hiatus, and Lee joined Die Krupps from Germany. After Heathen, VieBrooks went on to be the original bassist for Grip Inc., the band formed by Slayer's Dave Lombardo and Voodoocult guitarist Waldemar Sorychta. Groove Metal
Groove metal, sometimes also called neo-thrash or post-thrash, is a subgenre of heavy metal music that began in the early 1990s. The genre is primarily derived from thrash metal, but played in slower tempos, and making use of rhythmic guitar parts. It was pioneered in the late 1980s by groups like Exhorder, Prong and Bad Brains, and then popularized by the commercial success of Pantera, White Zombie, Machine Head and Sepultura. The genre went on to be influential in the development of the new wave of American heavy metal, nu metal and metalcore, and continued to gain traction in the 2000s with Lamb of God, DevilDriver and Five Finger Death Punch, and 2010s with Killer Be Killed and Bad Wolves. Pat O'Brien (guitarist)
Pat O'Brien (born May 17, 1965) is an American musician best known as the former lead guitarist for death metal band Cannibal Corpse. He is also a former member of heavy metal band Nevermore, a former live guitarist for Slayer, and is currently the lead guitarist for Exhorder. Biography was born in Northern Kentucky. He graduated from Conner High School in Hebron, Kentucky, in 1983 and currently resides in Tampa, Florida. His hobbies involve music and hunting. got his first guitar when he was 11. His mother bought him an acoustic guitar for Christmas. Later, when he started to practice more he received his first electric guitar, a Gibson SG copy (due to his adoration of AC/DC guitarist Angus Young). Overkill is an American thrash metal band, formed in 1980 in New Jersey. They have gone through many lineup changes, leaving bassist D.D. Verni and lead vocalist Bobby Ellsworth, Bobby "Blitz" Ellsworth as the only remaining original members. The band's current lineup includes Verni, Ellsworth, Dave Linsk on lead guitar, Derek "The Skull" Tailer on rhythm guitar, and Jeramie Kling as a touring drummer.
