Executive Secretary (Philippines)
The Office of the Executive Secretary of the Philippines (formerly the Executive Office) is the head and highest-ranking official of the Office of the President of the Philippines and a member of the Cabinet of the Philippines. The office-holder has been nicknamed as the "''Little President''" due to the nature and mandate of the position "to directly assist the President in the management of affairs of the government as well as to direct the operations of the Executive Office." It is headed by the executive secretary in which appointed by the President of the Philippines, president upon confirmation by the Commission on Appointments. The office was established on October 12, 1936, with Jorge B. Vargas as the inaugural holder. Lucas Bersamin
Lucas Purugganan "Luke" Bersamin (born October 18, 1949) is a Filipino lawyer and jurist who has served as the 40th executive secretary of the Philippines under President Bongbong Marcos since 2022. He previously served as the 25th chief justice of the Philippines from 2018 and 2019 and as an associate justice from 2009 to 2018. A graduate of University of the Philippines Diliman and the University of the East College of Law, Bersamin entered the judiciary in 1986, when he became a trial court judge in Quezon City. In 2003, President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo appointed Bersamin to the Court of Appeals before she elevated him to the Supreme Court in 2009. President Rodrigo Duterte appointed him chief justice in 2018 before leaving the court a year later. Ramon del Fierro Magsaysay Sr. (August 31, 1907 – March 17, 1957) was a Filipino statesman who served as the seventh President of the Philippines, from December 30, 1953, until his death in an 1957 Cebu Douglas C-47 crash, aircraft disaster on March 17, 1957, the most recent Philippine president to die in office. Fred Ruiz Castro (September 2, 1914 – April 19, 1979) was the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Philippines from January 5, 1976, until his death on April 19, 1979, while on an official trip to India. Elpidio Rivera Quirino (; November 16, 1890 – February 29, 1956) was a Philippine nationality law, Filipino lawyer and politician who served as the 6th President of the Philippines from 1948 to 1953. The Fourth Philippine Republic, also known as the Fourth Republic of the Philippines (; ), was established after Ferdinand Marcos won the 1981 Philippine presidential election and referendum.
