Executive Order 14224
Executive Order 14224, titled Designating English as the Official Language of the United States, is an executive order signed by Donald Trump on March 1, 2025 to designate English language, English as the official language of the United States. It does not attach any specific rights to the designation. Changes to federal guidance on non-English accommodations EO 14224 repeals Executive Order 13166, issued by President Bill Clinton on August 11, 2000. The Clinton order required agencies of the federal government to make plans to implement Department of Justice guidance ensuring people with limited English proficiency would have improved access to federal services on a non-discriminatory basis, to the degree needed and without an undue burden on the agencies. The English-only movement, also known as the Official English movement, is a political movement that advocates for the exclusive use of the English language in official United States government communication through the establishment of English as the only official language in the United States. An executive order issued on March 1, 2025 declared English to be the official language of the United States. The Inhofe Amendment was an amendment to the Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act of 2006, a United States Senate bill that would have changed current immigration law allowing fewer immigrants into the United States. The amendment was passed by the Senate on May 18, 2006 by a vote of 62–35. The bill did not pass the United States House of Representatives. According to the amendment, written by Sen. James M.
