''Evita'' is a concept album released in 1976 and produced by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice about the life of Eva Perón. Having successfully launched their previous show, ''Jesus Christ Superstar'', on record in 1970, Lloyd Webber and Rice returned to the format for ''Evita''. The album was recorded at Olympic Studios in London from April to September 1976 and released in the United Kingdom on 19 November 1976. Background Elements of the original plotline on this album were removed before the show was staged in London in 1978. "Che" here was much more explicitly based on Che Guevara, including a subplot about Guevara's failed efforts to market the insecticide Vendaval, most significantly highlighted in the song "The Lady's Got Potential". The track was cut from the score and a new song written to include the key plotline of Juan Perón's rise to power: "The Art of the Possible". Conformed in its entirety with previously unseen historical footage and documents, the documentary reconstructs the life of former Argentine first lady from a neutral perspective. The film starts with an examination of Evita Duarte's origins, her relationship with her parents (particularly her father) and siblings. ''Evita'' approaches intimate aspects of Duarte's early childhood and adolescence, leading to her resolving to flee her home in the countryside for the capital city of Buenos Aires. Pieter-Dirk Uys (; born 28 September 1945) is a South African performer, author, satirist, and social activist. One of his best known roles is as Evita Bezuidenhout, an Afrikaner socialite. Background and early life Uys was born in Cape Town on 28 September 1945, to Hannes Uys, a Calvinist Afrikaner father, and Helga Bassel, a Berlin-born Jewish mother. Hannes Uys, a fourth-generation South African of Dutch and Belgian Huguenot stock, was a musician and organist in his local church. Bassel was a German concert pianist, whom the Nazis expelled from the Reichsmusikkammer in 1935 as part of their campaign to root out Jewish artists. She later escaped to South Africa and managed to take her grand piano with her, with which she taught her daughter, Tessa Uys (b. 1948), now a concert pianist based in London.
