"Every Loser Wins" is a 1986 song performed by English actor and singer Nick Berry. Written and produced by Simon May, Stewart James and Bradley James, the song was heavily featured in the BBC soap opera '' EastEnders'' throughout the summer of 1986, sung by Berry's character Simon "Wicksy" Wicks. When released as a single, "Every Loser Wins" became a success, spending three weeks at number one on the UK Singles Chart in October and November 1986. It was the second biggest-selling single in the UK that year (after "Don't Leave Me This Way" by The Communards). The composers, Simon May, Stewart James and Bradley James each received an Ivor Novello Award for the composition. "Every Loser Wins" peaked at number 93 on the Australia Kent Music Report in 1987. Nick Berry
Nicholas Berry (born 16 April 1963) is a retired English actor and pop singer. He is best known for his roles as Simon Wicks in '' EastEnders'' from 1985 to 1990, and as PC Nick Rowan in ''Heartbeat'' from 1992 to 1998. He sang UK chart singles with " Every Loser Wins" in 1986, which went to number one, and the theme song from ''Heartbeat'', a cover of the Buddy Holly song "Heartbeat", in 1992. Career Berry started acting at the age of eight. After attending the Sylvia Young Theatre School in London he played minor parts on television, film, and stage until his big break playing Simon 'Wicksy' Wicks in the popular BBC soap opera '' EastEnders'', joining the series shortly after its inception in 1985 and staying until the end of 1990. Berry's character was thought up overnight and had been scheduled to appear later. The Queen Victoria (more often referred to as The Queen Vic or The Vic) is the Victorian public house in the BBC soap opera, '' EastEnders''. It has the fictional address of 46 Albert Square, Walford, London E20. Appearance and development In the series' backstory, Albert Square was built around 1860 during the reign of Queen Victoria. In February 2020 Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean) revealed that the original landlords of The Queen Victoria were Mr and Mrs Bagstock, and that he’d drowned his wife in the bath. Originally the pub was to be called The Balmoral Arms but after the death of Prince Albert it was renamed as a tribute to the mourning Queen. In reality, Albert Square is based on the real Fassett Square in Hackney, but there is no pub there so The Queen Victoria is based on what was once College Park Tavern on Harrow Road in Harlesden.
