Evangelismos, Larissa
Evangelismos () is a settlement of the municipal unit of Makrychori, which belongs to the municipality of Tempi in the Larissa regional unit, Thessaly, Greece. Evangelismos is built at an altitude of 50 meters NE of the regional capital, Larissa, in close proximity to the Vale of Tempe and the mountain range of Ossa. Until 1997, it was the seat of the homonymous community of the province of Larissa, while then it was part of the Kapodistrian municipality of Makrychori. In 2011, it came under the Kallikrat municipality of Tempi. At the beginning of 2016 at S.E.A. of the area temporarily accommodated refugees passing through from the Middle East. Larissa () is one of the regional units of Greece. It is part of the region of Thessaly. Its capital is the city of Larissa. Total population 268,963 (2021). Geography Larissa is the second largest regional unit in Greece, exceeded only by Aetolia-Acarnania. It covers about one-third of Thessaly. It borders the regional units of Kozani to the northwest, Pieria to the northeast, the Aegean Sea to the east, Magnesia to the southeast, Phthiotis to the south, Karditsa to the southwest and Trikala to the west. Vale Of Tempe
The Vale of Tempe or Tembi (; ; ) is a gorge in the Tempi municipality of northern Thessaly, Greece, located between Olympus to the north and Ossa to the south, and between the regions of Thessaly and Macedonia. The gorge was known to the Byzantines as Λυκόστομο (Wolf's Throat) and was called simply Boğaz (Gorge) by the Turks. In the Greek municipality of Tempi, the valley is ten kilometers long and as narrow as 25 metres in places, with cliffs nearly 500 metres high. Tempi Train Crash
On 28 February 2023, a head-on collision occurred between two trains south of the Vale of Tempe, Tempe Valley in Greece, about halfway between the Greek villages of Tempi (municipality), Tempi and Evangelismos, Larissa, Evangelismos in the Thessaly region. The collision, follow-up derailment and fireball that ensued involving the InterCity 62 (IC62) passenger train operated by Hellenic Train and an intermodal freight train, killed 57, heavily injured 81 and lightly injured 99 people. The estimated number of people were 352 on the passenger train including 10 staff, and 2 staff on the freight train totalling 354 people on both trains.
