Eurovision Song Contest 1979
The Eurovision Song Contest 1979 was the 24th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest. It took place in Jerusalem, Israel, following the country's victory at the with the song "A-Ba-Ni-Bi" by Izhar Cohen and the Alphabeta. Organised by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and host broadcaster the Israel Broadcasting Authority (IBA), the contest was held at the Menachem Ussishkin auditorium of the International Convention Centre on 31 March 1979, and was hosted by Israeli television presenter Daniel Pe'er and singer Yardena Arazi. This was the first time that the Eurovision Song Contest was held outside Europe. Daniel Pe'er
Daniel Pe'er (born Daniel Freudenreich, ; 2 January 1943 – 28 September 2017) was an Israeli television host and newsreader. Early life Daniel Freudenreich was born in Jerusalem, British Mandate of Palestine, to a Jewish family. He studied at Balfour school and the Ironi Aleph High School in Tel Aviv. He served in the Israel Defense Forces as a psychotechnical interviewer. He majored in Hebrew literature and English linguistics at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, and received a teaching certificate in English, where he continued his graduate studies at the Institute of Communication. Gali Atari (; born 29 December 1953) is an Israeli singer and actress. Atari won the Eurovision Song Contest 1979 which was held in Jerusalem, as part of Milk and Honey. Early life Atari was born as Abigail Atari (Hebrew: אביגיל עטרי) in Rehovot, Israel, to Jewish parents who immigrated to Israel from Yemen. She is the sister of Yona Atari, a singer and actress, and Shosh Atari, a radio host and TV personality. Her father died when she was four years old, and, after his death, her family moved to live in Tel-Aviv. Career 1970s Atari was introduced to the Israeli musician David Kribushe when she was 15 years old. After an audition for him, he gave her a featured singing part in one of his songs “Half and Half”. Richard Oesterreicher (10 November 1932 – 17 January 2023) was an Austrian conductor and jazz musician. Biography Born in Vienna on 10 November 1932, Oesterreicher was the son of a music teacher. He took an apprenticeship as a typesetter in 1947 before studying piano and guitar at the Music and Arts University of the City of Vienna. From 1958 to 1967, he worked as a professional musician within a group and was then a studio artist, arranger, and musician in the ORF entertainment orchestra. Peter Wolf (producer)
Peter F. Wolf (born August 25, 1952) is an Austrian composer, producer, songwriter and arranger. In 2002, he was awarded the Austrian Cross of Honour for Science and Art, 1st class (''Österreichische Ehrenkreuz für Wissenschaft und Kunst''). Wolf is married to fashion model and songwriter Lea Wolf-Millesi, and lives in Malibu, California. Career Wolf studied classical piano at the Conservatory of Music in Vienna. Franz André Heller (; born 22 March 1947 as Francis Charles Georges Jean André Heller-Hueart) is an Austrian artist, author, poet, singer, songwriter, and actor. Anita Skorgan (born 13 November 1958) is a Norwegian singer-songwriter. She represented Norway in the Eurovision Song Contest in (14th), (11th) and with Jan Teigen in (12th). Andres "Dries" Holten (30 January 1936 – 15 April 2020) was a Dutch singer and songwriter of Indo descent. He represented the Netherlands at the 1972 Eurovision Song Contest alongside Sandra Reemer. After he and Reemer broke up, Holten formed a new group with Rosy Pereira and called it Rosy & Andres. In 1980, Holten's final group was of him and Ria Shield Meyer. Barbara Alexandra "Sandra" Reemer (17 October 1950 – 6 June 2017) was an Indo-Dutch singer and television presenter. She represented the Netherlands in the Eurovision Song Contest on three occasions, tying with Corry Brokken for most appearances representing the country.
