European Party (Cyprus)
The European Party (Greek: Evropaiko Komma, Ευρωπαϊκό Κόμμα; abbreviated Ευρωκό, "Evroko") was a political party in Cyprus founded in 2005, largely out of the parties New Horizons and European Democracy. In March 2016, it dissolved to merge into the Solidarity Movement. The two predecessors were considered the most nationalist, anti-Turkish and anti-immigrant among Greek Cypriot parties. Evroko had a hard-line stance on the Cyprus problem, rejecting any compromise with Turkey or the Turkish-dominated Northern Cyprus, as proposed by the Annan Plan for Cyprus. It supported European integration and maintaining Greek influence in Cyprus. The party supported free market economic policies similar to that of Democratic Rally and the Democratic Party. Demetris Syllouris
Demetris Syllouris ( el, Δημήτρης Συλλούρης; tr, Dimitris Şilluris; born 27 July 1953) is a Greek-Cypriot politician. He is the former president of the Cypriot parliament and was the leader of the European Party between 2005 and 2016. Syllouris was born in Nicosia and studied Civil Engineering at the University of East London. Career Representative of Nicosia constituency under the banner of Democratic Rally Party (DISY)-Liberals Coalition 1991–2001, under the banner of DISY 2001–2004, independent 2004–2005, under the banner of the European Party 2005-2016 and since March 2016 under the banner of “Solidarity". The Cyprus problem, also known as the Cyprus dispute, Cyprus issue, Cyprus question or Cyprus conflict, is an ongoing dispute between Greek Cypriots in the south and Turkish Cypriots in the north. Greek Cypriot nationalism, also known as Cypriot Hellenism, is a form of ethnic nationalism emphasising the Greekness of the Cypriot nation. It is not the same as Greek nationalism, the main goal of which is the integration of Cyprus into Greecea process known as ''enosis''. The European Democratic Party (EDP) (French: Parti Démocrate Européen; PDE) also known as the European Democrats, is a centrist European political party in favour of European integration.
