Mount Etna, or simply Etna ( or ; , or ; ; or ), is an active stratovolcano on the east coast of Sicily, Italy, in the Metropolitan City of Catania, between the cities of Messina, Italy, Messina and Catania. It is located above the Convergent boundary, convergent plate margin between the African Plate and the Eurasian Plate. It is one of the tallest active volcanoes in Europe, and the tallest peak in Italy south of the Alps with a current height (September 2024) of , though this varies with summit eruptions. Etna (formerly Carthage) is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Licking County, Ohio, United States. As of the 2020 census it had a population of 1,209. It lies at an elevation of at the intersection of U.S. Route 40 and State Route 310. It was listed as a census-designated place in 2010. History Etna was originally called "Carthage", under which name it was laid out in 1832 when the National Road was being built to that point. The present name is derived from Etna Township. A post office called Etna has been in operation since 1833. Geography Etna is in southwestern Licking County, in the center of Etna Township. U.S. Route 40 forms the northern edge of the community, and Interstate 70 forms the southern edge. Access from I-70 is via Exit 118 (State Route 310). Mount Etna Caves is a national park in The Caves, Shire of Livingstone, Queensland, Australia, 544 km northwest of Brisbane. The park's caves are the roosting site for more than 80 percent of Australia's breeding population of little bent-wing bats. It is also one of the few places in Australia supporting a colony of the endangered ghost bat. Etna (river)
Etna or Etne is a river in the Valdres region of Innlandet county, Norway. The long river flows through the municipalities of Øystre Slidre, Nord-Aurdal, Etnedal, and Nordre Land before joining the river Dokka (river), Dokka at the village of Dokka in Nordre Land Municipality. Soon after the confluence of those two rivers, they join the Randsfjorden (a long, narrow inland lake). The river begins near the mountains Skaget and Langsua inside the Langsua National Park. It then flows in a southerly direction. Much of the river runs through the Etnedalen valley (the namesake of the municipality of Etnedal). The river runs through the village of Bruflat and then shortly after this, it begins heading in a more easterly direction. Etna is a ghost town that was located near the site of present-day Bullard in northwestern Cherokee County, Texas, United States. History Etna was first settled by immigrants from the Old South around the time of the Civil War. A local post office was established in 1867 and by the early 1880s the town possessed a dry good store, a district school, a church, a gristmill, a blacksmith, and several general stores. The settlement began to decline by the mid-1880s after the Kansas and Gulf Short Line Railroad bypassed Etna. Most of the residents and businesses move to Bullard and the post office closed in 1883.
