Esteghlal F.C.
Esteghlal Football Club (استقلال), commonly known as Esteghlal (meaning 'The Independence'), is the oldest Iranian professional association football, football club based in Tehran that competes in the Persian Gulf Pro League. The club was founded in 1945 as 'The Cyclists' ( , Dočarxe-Savârân) and was known as Tâj (تاج; meaning 'The Crown') between 1949 and 1979. The club is part of the multisport club Esteghlal Athletic and Cultural Company of Iran. They were the first team to reach 1,000 points in the Persian Gulf Pro League. After the 1979 revolution, the club's women's team was dissolved and the progress of women's football in Iran was tied to politics. Since the 1973–74 Takht Jamshid Cup, 1973–74 season, Esteghlal has played its home games at the Azadi Stadium, Azadi, which has a seating capacity of 78,116, though it can hold more people during important matches. The Azadi Stadium (, ), opened as the Aryamehr Stadium (), is an all-seater football stadium in Tehran, Iran. The stadium was designed by Abdol Aziz Mirza Farman-Farmaian Architects and Associates (AFFA) with other parts of the sports complex based on plans by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, an American architectural, urban planning, and engineering firm. It was inaugurated on 17 October 1971 by Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, the late Shah of Iran; it is currently self-owned by Esteghlal and Persepolis. It is also the home stadium of the Iran national football team. It has a capacity of 78,116 spectators, as the result of conversion to all-seater stadium. Büyük Jeddikar
Boyuk Jeddikar (; 6 December 1929 – 18 December 2013) was an Iranian footballer. He is known for being the first footballer in Iranian football history to be transferred from an Iranian club to a foreign club. Club career Jedikar first started playing in the position of goalkeeper. His talent of using the left-foot was discovered by coach Ali Danaeifard who suggested that Jeddikar should move upfront and play as a left striker. This discovery paid off and Jeddikar soon became one of the best footballers in the country. In 1957, he was transferred to Viktoria 89 Berlin on a three-year contract with a 1500 Deutschmarks a month salary, however his time in Germany was shortened when his father died, so after only 9 months Jeddikar returned to Iran to resume his career with Taj SC (currently Esteghlal). The Iranian football league system is a series of interconnected leagues for football clubs in Iran. Structure The current structure has been in place since 2001. The Pro League is the highest level of club football in Iran. It is also called the Pro League. Below it is the Azadegan League, also known as the 1st division and called the Azadegan League, which consists of one eighteen-team group. Amjadieh Stadium
The Shahid Shiroudi Stadium (), formerly known as Amjadieh Stadium (), is a sports stadium in Tehran, Iran. It is currently used for athletics and held football matches until 2009.
