Estación San Fernando is a railway station of the Empresa de los Ferrocarriles del Estado, located in San Fernando, Chile. It became part of the Empresa de los Ferrocarriles del Estado on November 3, 1862. It is the main railway station in the Colchagua Province. It is located on Quechereguas avenue. Estación San Fernando is part of the Red Sur Empresa de los Ferrocarriles del Estado, EFE, the TerraSur inter-city service has a stop here. Metrotrén commuter service terminate at this station. The Ramal Pichilemu diverge from here, originally to the city of Pichilemu (Pichilemu railway station, railway station) but the line was closed on 1987, operating today as far as Estación Peralillo. The steam locomotive hauled, ''(Wine Train)'', is a turistic train that operates every Saturday between Estación San Fernando and Estación Paniahue (in Santa Cruz). San Fernando, Chile
San Fernando is the capital of the province of Colchagua, in central Chile, and the second most populated urban center of the O'Higgins Region. Located close to the Tinguiririca River (a tributary of the Rapel) in a fertile valley, San Fernando sits 339 m (1,112 feet) above sea level. Founded in 1742, it became the provincial capital in 1840. Culture San Fernando is famous for its rodeos, thanks to its location at the heart of the country. The surrounding area yields wheat, forage crops, rice, legumes and grapes. There is also a brand of Chilean wine called ''San Fernando''. Both the Pan-American Highway and Chile's main longitudinal railroad run through San Fernando. San Fernando is located at the northern tip of Chile's Colchagua Valley. This region is popularly known as the heart of chilean agriculture.
