Essington is a village and civil parish in the South Staffordshire district of Staffordshire, England, northeast of the city of Wolverhampton. Nearby are the towns of Bloxwich and Cannock and the villages of Cheslyn Hay, Great Wyrley (Landywood) and Featherstone, Staffordshire, Featherstone. The parish borders the county of West Midlands (county), West Midlands and in 2021 had a population of 5,200. History In 1870–1872 the ''Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales'' described Essington as a Township (England), township in the parish of Bushbury, with a post office and 187 houses. The population had risen from 644 in 1851 to 976 in 1861, "from the extension of mining operations", and an tin tabernacle, iron church with room for 260 people had been built in 1858–1859. St John's Church, Essington
St John's Church is the parish church of Essington in the South Staffordshire district of Staffordshire, England. It is an active place of worship and is located on Wolverhampton Road. The church was built in 1932 on a three-acre site in the centre of the village of Essington, replacing the previous "Iron Church" built in 1859. The church is a Grade A locally listed building, described as "a fine example of inter-war architecture [which] shows an exuberant use of brick". Great Wyrley is a village and civil parish in the South Staffordshire district of Staffordshire, England. It forms a built-up area with nearby Cheslyn Hay, Churchbridge, Landywood and Little Wyrley. It lies north of Walsall and a similar distance from Wolverhampton. Cannock is directly north of the village. It had a population of 11,060 at the 2011 census. Chaserider is the brand name for bus services operated around Cannock and Staffordshire by D&G Bus, a local bus operator owned by Centrebus who are based in Adderley Green, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire. Bushbury
Bushbury is a suburban village and ward in the City of Wolverhampton in the West Midlands, England. It lies two miles north-east of Wolverhampton city centre, divided between the Bushbury North and Bushbury South and Low Hill wards. The A460 is a main road in the Midlands of England. It runs from Wolverhampton in the West Midlands to Rugeley in Staffordshire. It is also a primary road linking Wolverhampton and Cannock with the M54, M6 and M6 Toll.
