Erlingur Thoroddsen
Erlingur Óttar Thoroddsen (born 27 April 1984) is an Icelandic film director and screenwriter. Erlingur graduated from Columbia University's MFA Film Directing Program in 2013. In 2017, Erlingur directed his second feature film, ''Rift'' ('), a gay Icelandic psychological thriller. Erlingur won the Award for Artistic Achievement for ''Rift'' at Outfest in 2017. In 2023, Erlingur directed ''The Piper'', a dark reimagining of the tale of the Pied Piper of Hamelin. The Pied Piper of Hamelin (, also known as the Pan Piper or the Rat-Catcher of Hamelin) is the title character of a legend from the town of Hamelin (Hameln), Lower Saxony, Germany. The legend dates back to the Middle Ages. The earliest references describe a piper, dressed in multicoloured (" pied") clothing, who was a rat catcher hired by the town to lure rats away with his magic pipe. When the citizens refused to pay for this service as promised, he retaliated by using his instrument's magical power on their children, leading them away as he had the rats.
