Ergun, Inner Mongolia
Ergun ( zh, s=额尔古纳市; ), formerly Ergun Right Banner ( zh, links=no , s=额尔古纳右旗), is a county-level city in Hulunbuir, Inner Mongolia, containing the autonomous region's northernmost point. The city has an area of , and a population of 79,155 as of the 2019. History For most of its history, the region of present-day Ergun has been governed by ethnic minority regimes. The area first came under Chinese control during the Qing dynasty, when it was administered as part of Hulunbuir. In 1908, the Jilalin Administrative Bureau () was established to govern the area. In 1920, the area was re-organized as the Qiqan Administrative Bureau (), but the area was re-organized again in 1921 as Qiqan County (). In 1933, the area was re-organized as Ergun Right Banner (). Argun River (Asia)
The Argun or Ergune ( zh, 额尔古纳河) is a long river that forms part of the eastern China–Russia border, together with the Amur. Its upper reaches are known as the Hailar River () in China. The Argun marks the border (established by the Treaty of Nerchinsk in 1689) between Russia and China for about , until it meets the Amur. Name The name derives from Buryat ''Urgengol'' 'wide river' (''urgen'' 'wide' + ''gol'' 'river'). Mongolian word "ergün" (in Traditional Mongolian alphabet) or "örgön" (in modern Mongolian) means "wide". Geography The river flows from the Western slope of the Greater Xing'an Range in China's Inner Mongolia, and forms the Chinese side of the two rivers that flow together to produce the Amur (Heilong). Ergun Michael Caner (born November 3, 1966) is a Swedish-American academic, author, and Baptist minister, who became well known for his book, co-authored with his brother, on Islam and his claims that he was a devout Muslim trained as a terrorist. He emigrated to the United States at age four and claimed to have converted to Protestantism in the early 1980s. Caner is the former President of Brewton-Parker College in Mount Vernon, Georgia. He previously served as the Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs at Arlington Baptist College and was the former dean of the Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary and Graduate School of Liberty University. Ergun Öztuna (16 August 1937 – 24 May 2023) was a Turkish footballer who played as a forward for Fenerbahçe. He was known as Puskas Ergun due to his top-class technique. Ayşe Funda Ergün is a Turkish and American theoretical computer scientist, a professor of computer science at Indiana University Bloomington, and the chair of ACM SIGACT, the Association for Computing Machinery Special Interest Group on Algorithms and Computation Theory.
