Ercüment Ekrem Talu
Ercüment Ekrem Talu (1886 – December 16, 1956) was a Turkish writer, humorist and a journalist. Biography He was born to Recaizade Mahmud Ekrem, a poet and writer of the Ottoman Empire era in Istanbul in 1886. After graduating from Galatasaray High School in 1905 and Faculty of Law, he went to Paris, France, for further studies in political sciences. He could speak and write in about nine foreign languages. In 1907, during the Ottoman Empire era, he became a civil servant in İstanbul. During the early days of the Republic of Turkey, he served as the Director General of the Press and Information. On March 12, 1924, he was appointed Secretary General of the President. He resigned from this post on April 30, 1924. Between 1931 and 1933, he served as counselor at the Turkish Embassy in Warsaw, Poland. Later, Talu worked as a teacher of French language at Teacher's College "Gazi Eğitim Enstitüsü", and as a teacher of literature at Galatasaray High School. His further functions ... Nasreddin Hoca
Nasreddin () or Nasreddin Hodja (variants include Mullah Nasreddin Hodja, Nasruddin Hodja, Mullah Nasruddin, Mullah Nasriddin, Khoja Nasriddin, Khaja Nasruddin) (1208–1285) is a character commonly found in the folklores of the Muslim world, and a hero of humorous short stories and satirical anecdotes. There are frequent statements about his existence in real life and even archaeological evidence in specific places, for example, a tombstone in the city of Akşehir, Turkey. At the moment, there is no confirmed information or serious grounds to talk about the specific date or place of Nasreddin's birth, so the question of the reality of his existence remains open. Nasreddin appears in thousands of stories, sometimes witty, sometimes wise, but in many of which he is presented as a (holy) fool or as the butt of a joke. ''Yedigün'' () was a weekly illustrated general interest magazine which existed between 1933 and 1950 in Istanbul. It was one of the first publications in its category in Turkey. Sedat Simavi, a prominent Turkish journalist, was the founder and editor of the magazine of which the motto was ''Yedigün is the ornament of each home''. History and profile ''Yedigün'' was first published on 15 March 1933, and its founder and editor was Sedat Simavi. Sadri Etem Ertem was the founding publisher and owner of the magazine until 1937 when Simavi acquired it. Ertem designed ''Yedigün'' as a family-oriented magazine, targeting the Westernized elites, intellectuals, the bureaucrats and those living in cities.
