The individual jumping event, part of the equestrian program at the 2004 Summer Olympics, was held from 22 August to 24 August 2004 in the Olympic Equestrian Centre on the outskirts of Markopoulo in the Attica region of Greece. Equestrian At The 2004 Summer Olympics
Equestrian events at the 2004 Summer Olympics featured three equestrian disciplines: dressage, eventing and jumping. All three disciplines are further divided into individual and team contests for a total of six events. The Markopoulo Olympic Equestrian Centre, on the outskirts of Markopoulo in the Attica region of Greece, hosted the dressage and jumping events while the eventing took place in the nearby Eventing Park. Dobels Cento
Dobel's Cento (1 March 1989 – 5 February 2018) was a horse who competed in International Grand Prix show jumping competitions. He stood at 16.3½ hh (171 cm) and was an approved stud for Oldenburg, Rhinelander and Belgian Warmblood. With German rider Otto Becker, the stallion won medals in the 2000 and 2004 Summer Olympic Games. He was bred by Heinrich Schoof of Büsum, Germany, and spent 11 years competing with Otto Becker. He was retired at age 17 in 2006. During his show career, Dobel's Cento won €1,026,188 in international competition. Dobel's Cento was euthanized after contracting pneumonia at age 28. Chris Kappler
Chris Kappler (born February 9, 1967) is an American show jumper and horse trainer. He is an Olympic gold and silver medalist, and the winner of over 100 Grand Prixs. He is a founder of the North American Riders Group. Early life Kappler grew up in Barrington, Illinois. He started riding at age nine, and began his show career training with Alex Jayne. He was discovered by George Morris and trained at Morris' stable, Hunterdon. He placed second in the USEF Medal Finals, third in the ASPCA Maclay Finals, and second in the USET Talent Search Finals. Career Kappler worked for George Morris for almost 25 years. Kappler was named Midwest Rider of the Year in 1987, 1988, 1989 and 1991. In 1989, he won the Lionel Guerrand-Hermes Trophy. Authentic (show Jumping Horse)
Authentic (June 22, 1995 – April 9, 2025), nicknamed Bud, was a Dutch Warmblood gelding that competed in show jumping. He won three Olympic medals and two World Equestrian Games medals. He was owned by Abigail Wexner, and was ridden by Olympic medalist Beezie Madden. Authentic was a bay with a star and snip and stood high. He was retired from competition in 2009 to Cazanovia, NY, at the Maddens' farm. Authentic died on April 9, 2025, at the age of 29. Pedigree Competitive career In 2004, Authentic and Madden made double-clear rounds at the Athens Olympic Games which helped the U.S team win the gold medal. Elizabeth Madden (née Patton; born 20 November 1963) is an American Equestrian at the Summer Olympics, Olympic List of Olympic medalists in equestrian, champion Equestrianism, equestrian competing in show jumping. She has two Olympic golds and one silver in team jumping, and an individual bronze.
