Engineering New Zealand
Engineering New Zealand Te Ao Rangahau (ENZ; previously the New Zealand Institution of Engineers – NZIE and then Institution of Professional Engineers New Zealand – IPENZ) is a not-for-profit professional body that promotes the integrity and interests of members, the profession, and the industry. It seeks to "bring engineering to life" and has more than 22,000 members. The organisation's strategy is to deliver greater credibility, recognition, influence and connection for members. It promotes engineering as a career and advocates on behalf of members. Kennie Tsui
Kennie Tsui is a New Zealand chemical and environmental engineer. In July 2021, she was appointed chief executive of the New Zealand Geothermal Association. In December 2024, she was appointed a Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit, for services to the environment and governance. Biography Tsui is the chair of the Wellington branch of Engineering New Zealand. Since 2016, she has been chair of the International Partnership of Geothermal Technologies. In 2019, she was appointed principal analyst for the New Zealand Climate Change Commission. In 2020, she received the Fulton-Downer Gold Medal for her leadership in the engineering industry. Horace Lusty
Horace Campbell Lusty (11 June 1895 – 23 April 1972) was the General Manager of New Zealand Railways from 1951 to 1955. He was born on 11 June 1895 at Petone, and died on 24 April 1972. He joined the NZR staff as an engineering cadet on 5 February 1912. He was appointed as a draughtsman on 5 December 1917. He was commended in 1921 for his efforts in suppressing a bush fire at Horopito which was threatening Railways houses on 14 January. He was stationed in Christchurch, Dunedin, Greymouth, Invercargill, Ohakune, and Wellington. He was appointed Assistant Chief Engineer on 6 October 1936, Chief Engineer on 1 September 1944, and General Manager on 1 August 1951. Bing Xue is a New Zealand computer scientist, and is a full professor at Victoria University of Wellington, specialising in machine learning, artificial intelligence and data visualisation. Academic career Xue earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Henan University of Economics and Law in 2007 followed by a Master of Science from Shenzhen University in 2010. Xue completed a PhD titled ''Particle Swarm Optimisation for Feature Selection in Classification'' at Victoria University of Wellington in 2014. Sarah Wakes
Sarah Jane Wakes is an English-born New Zealand applied mathematician and engineer, and is a full professor at the University of Otago. She is the first woman to be head of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the university. Academic career Wakes was born in England. Wakes completed a PhD titled ''The development of a sand wave'' at the University of Nottingham in 1991. Wakes was a chartered engineer and marine engineer in the UK, and through the UK Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology is also a chartered engineer in New Zealand. Wakes joined the University of Otago in 2002, initially in the design department, then in applied sciences.
