Emmeram, Kansas
Emmeram is an unincorporated community in Herzog Township, Ellis County, Kansas, United States. History In 1899, Catholic parishioners from nearby Herzog established a new parish six miles to the north and began construction of Sacred Heart Church, which they completed in 1901. Originally named Norddorf, the community was renamed Emmeram after Emmeram Kausler, the church pastor. The community grew to include two schools, and a town plot was filed in 1902, but the town was never built. A post office operated in Emmeram from 1903 to 1904. Hays is a city in and the county seat of Ellis County, Kansas, United States. The largest city in northwestern Kansas, it is the economic and cultural center of the region. Smoky Hills
The Smoky Hills are an upland region of hills in the central Great Plains of North America. They are located in the Midwestern United States, encompassing north-central Kansas and a small portion of south-central Nebraska. Fort Hays State University (FHSU) is a public university in Hays, Kansas. It is the fourth-largest of the six state universities governed by the Kansas Board of Regents, with a total enrollment of approximately 15,100 students. History FHSU was founded in 1902 as the Western Branch of Kansas State Normal School, which is now known as Emporia State University. The institution was originally located on the grounds of Fort Hays, a frontier military outpost that was closed in 1889. Herzog, Kansas
Victoria is a city in Ellis County, Kansas, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population of the city was 1,129. History A group of British colonists led by a Scotsman named George Grant founded Victoria in 1873 on land he had purchased from the Kansas Pacific Railway. They named the settlement after Queen Victoria. Grant intended for Victoria to be a ranching community and was purportedly responsible for bringing the first Aberdeen Angus cattle to the United States. Most of the colonists, however, were remittance men more interested in sports and dancing than in raising livestock. Their families soon learned of this and reduced the remittances, driving most of the colonists to leave by 1880. Some returned to Britain; others left for South America.
