Emmanuel Schools Foundation
The Emmanuel Schools Foundation (ESF) is a charitable trust which has been involved in education since 1989. ESF currently run six schools. The four original members of the ESF are: Emmanuel City Technology College in Gateshead (opened 1990), The King's Academy, Middlesbrough, The King's Academy in Middlesbrough (2003), Trinity Academy, Thorne, Trinity Academy in Thorne, South Yorkshire, Thorne, Doncaster (2005) and Bede Academy in Blyth, Northumberland which opened in September 2009. Emmanuel City Technology College
Emmanuel College is a secondary school and sixth form college (years 7-13) based in Gateshead, England. It was founded in 1990 as a City Technology College, i.e. a secondary school which is partly funded by donations from business donors who remain involved in management of the college. Emmanuel is currently one of the three remaining City Technology Colleges in England as the remainder have converted to academies. Emmanuel has 1,553 students (340 of which in the sixth form) aged between 11 and 19, and over 160 staff. It is part of Emmanuel Schools Foundation and in each of its four Office for Standards in Education, Children's Services and Skills, Ofsted inspections it has achieved a status of "Outstanding". Students come from a wide variety of socio-economic backgrounds but predominantly from the urban areas within Gateshead and Central and West Newcastle upon Tyne. Truth In Science
Truth in Science is a United Kingdom-based creationist organisation which promotes the Discovery Institute's " Teach the Controversy" campaign, which it uses to try to get the pseudoscientific concept of intelligent design creationism taught alongside evolution in school science lessons. The organisation claims that there is scientific controversy about the validity of Darwinian evolution, a view rejected by the United Kingdom's Royal Society and over 50 Academies of Science around the world. ''TES'', formerly known as the ''Times Educational Supplement'', is a British weekly trade magazine aimed at education professionals. It was first published in 1910 as a pull-out supplement in ''The Times'' newspaper. Such was its popularity that in 1914, the supplement became a separate publication selling for one penny. ''TES'' focuses on school-related news and features. It covered higher education until the ''Times Higher Education Supplement'' (now ''Times Higher Education'') was launched as a sister publication in 1971. Today its editor is Jon Severs. Young Earth Creationism
Young Earth creationism (YEC) is a form of creationism which holds as a central tenet that the Earth and its lifeforms were created by supernatural acts of the Abrahamic God between about 10,000 and 6,000 years ago, contradicting established scientific data for the age of Earth putting it at around 4.54 billion years. United Learning is the trading name for United Church Schools Trust (UCST) and United Learning Trust (ULT). Special measures is a status applied by regulators of public services in Britain to providers who fall short of acceptable standards. In education (England and Wales) Ofsted, the schools inspection agency for England and some British Overseas Territories, and Estyn, the schools inspection agency for Wales, apply the term special measures () to schools under their jurisdictions when they consider the school has failed to provide an acceptable standard of teaching, has poor facilities, or otherwise fails to meet the minimum standards for education set by the government and other agencies, when they judge the school lacks the leadership capacity amongst its management to ensure improvements.
