Emilio Tuñón
Emilio Tuñón Álvarez (born 1 January 1959 in Madrid) is a Spanish architect. In 2014, Mansilla + Tuñón Architects received the Gold Medal of Merit in the Fine Arts (Spain) from the Spanish Ministry of Culture. Alvarez graduated from the ETSAM School of Architecture in 1981, obtaining a PhD in 1998. He was with the Fine Arts Cultural Department (1982) and the Architecture Public Works and Urban Planning Department (1983). Until 1992, he worked in the office of Spanish architect Rafael Moneo. In 1992, Alvarez and Luis Moreno Mansilla established the architecture firm Mansilla + Tuñón Architects. Tuñón is a professor of ETSAM's architectural design department and has been visiting professor in several universities: Harvard University Graduate School of Design, Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, Frankfurt Städelschule, Navarra Architecture School, Barcelona Architecture School, New Puerto Rico Architecture School. Spanish Architecture Award
The Spanish Architecture Award () is a prize which has been given biannually by the Consejo Superior de los Colegios de Arquitectos de España (CSCAE) since 1993. It was created to publicize the quality of architectural works in Spain. It is granted to the finished work that is considered worthy of recognition for its architectural singularity, its innovative contribution, and its paradigmatic construction quality. Luis Moreno Mansilla
Luis M. Mansilla (1959 in Madrid – 2012 in Barcelona), was a Spanish architect. He graduated from the E.T.S.A.M. on 1982, and obtained the Ph. degree on 1998. In 1984 he was fellow of the Spanish Academy in Rome, and in 1987 obtained the Swedish Institute Scholarship in Stockholm. During the 1980s, he actively participated in the cultural scene of the so-called “La Movida”. A time when he developed enduring friendships with artists Sigfrido Martín Begué and Guillermo Pérez Villalta, that strongly influenced his own work. In 1992, Mansilla and Emilio Tuñón established the architecture firm Mansilla + Tuñón Architects, that operated until short after he died. Rafael Moneo
José Rafael Moneo Vallés (born 9 May 1937) is a Spanish architect. He won the Pritzker Prize for architecture in 1996, the RIBA Royal Gold Medal in 2003, and La Biennale's Golden Lion in 2021. Biography Born in Tudela, Spain, Moneo studied at the ETSAM, Technical University of Madrid (UPM) from which he received his architectural degree in 1961. Moneo designed the Davis Art Museum at Wellesley College in Massachusetts and the Audrey Jones Beck Building (an expansion of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston). He also designed the Chace Center, a new building for the Rhode Island School of Design. In December 2010, the Northwest Corner Building (formerly the Interdepartmental Science Building) at Columbia University in New York City first opened.
