Wami Kata, South Australia
Wami Kata is a suburb in the Far North region of South Australia, situated within the City of Port Augusta. It was named and its boundaries created in February 1994, named for the Aboriginal community. The name means "head of the snake" in Pitjantjatjara. A section of Wami Kata was severed and included into the new locality of Emeroo in 2013, and a further portion in its south severed, along with a section of neighbouring Port Augusta, to create the new suburb of Davenport in 2014. Following the creation of Davenport in 2014, the Wami Kata Old Folks Home now lies within Davenport. The historic former Emeroo Station Ostrich Farm, which is listed on the South Australian Heritage Register, lies mostly within Wami Kata; a portion also lies on its border with Emeroo. Mount Arden is a locality in the Australian state of South Australia located about north of the state capital of Adelaide and about north of the municipal seat in Port Augusta. Mount Arden's boundaries were created on 26 April 2013 and given the “local established name” which is derived from the pastoral station of the same name. Yorkeys Crossing is a ford in the Australian state of South Australia located at the head of Spencer Gulf in the gazetted locality of Emeroo about north of Port Augusta. Saltia, South Australia
Saltia is a locality in the Australian state of South Australia located on the western side of the Flinders Ranges about north of the state capital of Adelaide and about east of the city of Port Augusta. Saltia began as a private sub-division associated with Sections 901 and 902 of the cadastral unit of the Hundred of Woolundunga in 1862. The developer was Charles Simmons who purchased the land prior to 1859 followed by the erection of a hotel in the same year and the layout of the "town" in 1862. The name is derived from an Aboriginal word ''thaltja'' meaning "the gums" and spelt as ''thaltia'' in 1855. A post office was opened around 1869. It was declared as a place name on 13 December 1984. Port Augusta West is a suburb of Port Augusta, South Australia. However, it has a separate early colonial history to Port Augusta, because it is on the Eyre Peninsula, while the rest of Port Augusta is on the east side of Spencer Gulf. It was not until 1926 that a bridge was built across the head of the Spencer Gulf to connect them, replacing a punt. Flinders Ranges
The Flinders Ranges are the largest mountain range in South Australia, which starts about north of Adelaide. The ranges stretch for over from Port Pirie to Lake Callabonna. The Adnyamathanha people are the Aboriginal group who have inhabited the range for tens of thousands of years. Its most well-known landmark is Wilpena Pound / Ikara, a formation that creates a natural amphitheatre covering and containing the range's highest peak, St Mary Peak ().
