Elías Sapag
Elías Canaán Sapag (Arabic language, Arabic: إلياس كنعان صباغ) (August 5, 1911 – June 21, 1993) was a Lebanon, Lebanese-born Argentina, Argentine politician, long-serving senator for Neuquén Province, founder of the Neuquén People's Movement and head of the locally influential Sapag family, Sapag family. Sapag was born in Mayrouba, in the Keserwan District, Lebanon, and emigrated with his parents to Argentina in 1913. They arrived in Covunco, Neuquén, where his grandfather had already set up home, and moved on to Zapala. His parents had several more children, including his brothers Felipe Sapag, Felipe, Amado and José. The family were successful in business, but the 1930 economic collapse brought great hardship. Sapag and his brothers were forced to give up their education to work to support the family and they moved to Cutral Có to set up a company. The Honorable Senate of the Argentine Nation () is the upper house of the National Congress of Argentina. Overview The National Senate was established by the Argentine Confederation on July 29, 1854, pursuant to Articles 46 to 54 of the 1853 Constitution. There are 72 members: three for each province and three for the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires. The number of senators per province was raised from two to three following the 1994 amendment of the Argentine Constitution as well as the addition of the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires' senators. Jorge Augusto Sapag (b. July 18, 1951) is an Argentine politician and lawyer, a member of the Neuquino People's Movement (MPN) and governor of Neuquén Province in Argentina since 2007. Luz María Sapag (15 June 1944 – 7 July 2010) was an Argentine politician, Mayor of the city of San Martín de los Andes and formerly a Senator representing the Neuquén Province under the aegis of the Neuquino People's Movement. Sapag was born in Cutral Có, Neuquén. She was a member of the influential Arab Argentine Sapag family – daughter of Elías Sapag, a senator; niece of Felipe Sapag, five-time governor of Neuquén; and sister to Jorge Sapag, governor of Neuquén from 2007. She became secretary of government of the municipality of San Martín de los Andes in 1987, and in 1991 became Mayor of the city.
