Eloy, Arizona
Eloy is a city in Pinal County, Arizona, Pinal County, Arizona, United States, approximately northwest of Tucson, Arizona, Tucson and about southeast of Phoenix, Arizona, Phoenix. According to the 2020 United States census, 2020 census, the population of the city is 15,635. History In 1880, as tracks were being laid for the Southern Pacific Railroad's Sunset Route, a small number of boxcars were used as a camp for railroad workers. It was discovered that cotton could be grown in the area's climate. In 1902, the Southern Pacific Railroad named the area train stop Eloy, an acronym for "East Line Of Yuma". Alternately, there is a legend that the area was initially called "Eloi", after a railroad employee looked around at the barren desert and said, "Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?" (Aramaic and Hebrew for Psalm 22, "My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?"). A town called Cotton City was established in 1918. In 1919, the newly established post office rejected that name in favo ...

Eloy (band)
Eloy is a German rock band. Founded in 1969 by guitarist Frank Bornemann, the band is best known for their progressive rock music. History Founded in 1969 by guitarist Frank Bornemann, the band has endured several line-up changes, with Bornemann being the only consistent member of the group. In the 1980s, after a series of major splits in the group, Bornemann pursued a more commercial direction. However, in later years, former members of the band re-joined, and in 1998 released the album ''Ocean 2'', a return to the classic symphonic progressive rock genre for which the band was well known. Despite attracting a large following in Germany, the band never gained popularity in the United States. The name Eloy is based on the futurist race of humans from the book ''The Time Machine'' by H. G. Wells (there spelled "Eloi"). Bornemann described the origin of the name of the band thus: "Wells describes in his book the situation of mankind about 800,000 years later, and 'Eloy' is a ...

Eloy (album)
''Eloy'' is the debut album by German rock band Eloy, released in 1971. The album's front cover depicts a garbage can lid, which is printed as an extra flap on the LP cover. When flipped, the bottom of the lid and the inside of the bin are revealed, as if someone opened an actual garbage can. According to the band's leader Frank Bornemann, members of Eloy had "''polarizing positions taken in relation to their artistic direction''" at the time, but they "''did manage to put an album together which accurately illustrated and reflected the spirit of this epoch''". He also thinks that the album represents the band's "''embryonic stage''". Allmusic's reviewer Robert Taylor considers the album to be the "''humble beginnings for one of progressive rock's most underrated bands''". Track listing All information according to original vinyl liner notes. Eloi
The Eloi are one of the two fictional species of post-humans, along with the Morlocks, in H. G. Wells' 1895 novel ''The Time Machine''. In H. G. Wells' ''The Time Machine'' By the year AD 802,701, humanity has diverged into two separate species: the Eloi and the Morlocks. The Eloi live a banal life of ease on the surface of the Earth while the Morlocks live underground, tending machinery and providing food, clothing, and inventory for the Eloi. The narration suggests that the divergence of species may have been the result of a widening separation between social classes. The Eloi are suggested to be the descendants of a privileged, surface-dwelling, upper class, which once dominated the subterranean working class. The Time Traveler, the story's protagonist, surmises that the surface-dwelling civilization had reached its zenith and devolved into decadence and indifference. At the same time, the "underworlders", who supported the surface world, grew accustomed to labor and ha ...
