Ellermühle Speedway Stadium
The Ellermühle Speedway Stadium also known as the OneSolar Arena is a 12,000-capacity motorcycle speedway stadium and driving safety facility, 10 km west of Landshut in Germany. The site is directly next to Flugplatz Landshut (Landshut Airport), which should not be confused as Munich airport. Speedway The stadium is owned by the Landshut Automobile Club. It is the home venue of the speedway team called AC Landshut or the Landshut Devils who race in the Team Speedway Polish Championship. The Mayor Josef Deimer and ADAC President Franz Stadler opened the stadium on 17 August 1975. The stadium has hosted various international events including the 1978 Speedway World Team Cup and the German Grand Prix during the 1997 Speedway Grand Prix season. Motorcycle speedway, usually referred to simply as speedway, is a motorcycle sport involving four and sometimes up to six riders competing over four clockwise, anti-clockwise laps of an oval circuit. The motorcycles are specialist machines that use only one gear and have no brakes. Racing takes place on a flat oval track usually consisting of soil, dirt, loosely packed shale, or crushed rock (mostly used in Australia and New Zealand). AC Landshut is a German automobile and motorcycle club best known for its motorcycle speedway team Landshut Devils, based in Landshut, Bavaria. History It was founded by ADAC members in 1922 and has won a record 12 German Bundesliga championships and a record 7 West German Championships (1973-1990). Since 1975 they have raced at the Ellermühle Speedway Stadium. Due to the suspension of the German Speedway Bundesliga due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, the club joined the Polish 1. Team Speedway Polish Championship
The Team Speedway Polish Championship ( Polish: ''Drużynowe Mistrzostwa Polski, DMP'') is an annual speedway event held each year in different Polish clubs organized by the Polish Motor Union (PZM) since 1948. In 2000, the First Division was renamed Ekstraliga, and the number of teams was reduced. The team winning the league is awarded a gold medal and declared Polish Team Champions. 1997 Speedway Grand Prix
The 1997 Speedway Grand Prix was the 52nd edition of the official World Championship. It was the third season in the Speedway Grand Prix era used to determine the Speedway World Champion. Greg Hancock from the United States became the World Champion with 118 points beating fellow American Billy Hamill into second place. The bronze medal went to Pole Tomasz Gollob. Event format During 1997 the initial SGP scoring system was used for the final time. Each rider raced every other in the meeting with the top 4 qualifying for a final - the points for all other riders determined their finishing position in the meeting and therefore their championship Grand Prix points. Martin Smolinski
Martin Smolinski (born 6 December 1984) is a German motorcycle speedway rider. He is three-times world longtrack champion and eight times champion of Germany. Personal life Smolinski was born on 6 December 1984 in Munich, West Germany. He is of Polish descent through his paternal grandfather from Katowice. Career Smolinksi began riding in his natiove Germany for MSC Olching. He became the German junior champion in 2003 and after reaching the final 2003 Speedway Under-21 World Championship he signed for Coventry Bees in England. Coventry retained him for the following two seasons and his form improved over the next two seasons. In 2006, he signed for his first Polish club Rybnik and in 2007 became the German Champion for the first time. Also in 2007, he won the league and cup double with Coventry during the 2007 Elite League speedway season. 2024 Speedway Grand Prix
The 2024 Speedway Grand Prix season was the 30th season of the Speedway Grand Prix era, and decided the 79th FIM Speedway World Championship. It was the third series promoted by Discovery Sports Events. A new sprint race was introduced at selected Grand Prix during the qualifying session, with the fastest rider in each qualifying session progressing to a single race for extra points. The idea behind the sprint race was similar to that brought into the Formula One, whereby the qualifying sessions were given more importance. Bartosz Zmarzlik successfully defended the title, which was his third in a row and a fifth overall. Robert Lambert took second place with Fredrik Lindgren in third. Summary Jack Holder won the opening round, which was the first Grand Prix win of his career. Landshut is a ''Landkreis'' (district) in Bavaria, Germany. It is bounded by (from the north and clockwise) the districts of Kelheim, Straubing-Bogen, Dingolfing-Landau, Rottal-Inn, Mühldorf, Erding and Freising.
