"Ella" is a Spanish-language song, a ''vals mexicano'' composed by José Alfredo Jiménez in the 40s. In 1948, while he was working as waiter in a restaurant called La Sirena, in Santa María de la Rivera, he met the singer Miguel Aceves Mejía. He then asked him to hear some of his songs, since he was also a composer. They agreed to meet at the Radio Station XEW, where the singer had an audition called Amanecer Ranchero. A few days later, José Alfredo arrived to the radio and started singing his songs "Ella" and some more. Miguel was impressed and promised to support him and record his songs. Mejía was the first famous artist to record the song, but soon afterwards all major singers in Mexico started to include his songs in their repertory. José Alfredo Jiménez
José Alfredo Jiménez Sandoval (; 19 January 1926 – 23 November 1973) was a Mexican singer-songwriter, whose songs are regarded as the basis of modern Regional Mexican music and Rancheras. Early life Jiménez was born in Dolores Hidalgo, Guanajuato, Mexico. His father died when he was ten years old, and his mother moved the family to Mexico City. Jiménez worked from a young age to help support his family. He took a job as a waiter at a Yucatacan restaurant in Santa María de la Ribera named La Sirena. While working there, he started writing songs and singing with a group called Los Rebeldes. Career The singer Miguel Aceves Mejía claims to have discovered him from Los Rebeldes. Miguel Aceves Mejía (15 November 1915 – 6 November 2006) was a Mexican actor, composer and singer. Miguel Aceves Mejía, or "the god of Ranchera" as he was popularly known, was born in El Paso, Texas, and was registered in Chihuahua City in the state of Chihuahua. He became a popular Mexican film star during its golden age and was widely regarded for his interpretations of various Mexican musical genres, particularly the ranchera. Originally part of a traveling theater company, Aceves began recording for the first time in 1938 with the trio ''Los Porteños''. At the beginning of his career he interpreted mainly boleros, and Mexican Rancheras rhythms. During his career he recorded more than 1600 songs on 140 discs and starred in 64 films. Pedro Infante Cruz (; 18 November 1917 – 15 April 1957) was a Mexican ranchera singer and actor whose career spanned the golden age of Mexican cinema. Infante was born in Mazatlán, Sinaloa, and raised in nearby Guamúchil. He died on 15 April 1957 in Mérida, Yucatán, while en route to Mexico City when his plane crashed due to engine failure. From 1939 until his death, Infante acted in over 60 films (30 of them with his brother Ángel Infante, Ángel) and recorded over 350 songs. His 1952 ranchera album ''Cuando sale la luna'' was rated No. 56 in a 2024 ranking of the 600 greatest Latin music albums of all time. Jorge Alberto Negrete Moreno (; 30 November 1911 – 5 December 1953) was a Mexican singer and actor. He specialized in the musical genre of ranchera. His posthumous album "Fiesta Mexicana Volumen II" has been ranked by critics at No. 163 on their list of the greatest Latin albums of all time.
