Elizabethtown, Texas
Elizabethtown, once known as Bugtown, is a ghost town located about fifteen miles southwest of Denton in Denton County, Texas, United States. The town derived its original name from the adjacent Elizabeth Creek. The creek starts in northeast Roanoke and ends near Rhome, Haslet, and Avondale. The town is one of at least five ghost towns in Denton County, which includes Drop, Stony, Alton, and Green Valley. It is one of many ghost towns in Texas. History The town site was located in the southeast corner of George W. Shamblin Survey #1191. Its first residents, members of the Peters Colony arrived c. 1850. Elizabethtown served as a supply station in 1852, mostly for cowboys driving their herds to Kansas. The town founders, the Harmonsons, constructed a church, homes, a business, and a school. Stony, Texas
Stony is a ghost town in Denton County in the U.S. State of Texas. The former town site is between Old Stoney Road and Farm to Market Road 2622 (FM 2622) in the western portion of Denton County. Stony is one of the three ghost towns in Denton County, which also include Elizabethtown and Drop, and one of many ghost towns in Texas. History Stony was first settled in the late 1850s and was named for the stony, rocky area it resided in. The population started out at only around a couple people, but it never exceeded a population of over 50. Stony opened a post office in 1879, but it only lasted until 1918. The town had a rather small boom in the 1880s. In 1884, the town opened a mill, a gin, four churches, two schools, and had a population of around 130. Camp Meeting
The camp meeting is a form of Protestant Christian religious service originating in England and Scotland as an evangelical event in association with the communion season. Justin, Texas
Justin is a city in Denton County, Texas, United States. The population was 4,409 in 2020. It is also an outer ring suburb of Fort Worth. History In 1848, approximately 70 followers of the French utopian socialist Étienne Cabet arrived in what is now Justin to found an Icarian community. The attempt failed. Contrary to popular belief, the town is not named after or related to the Justin Boot Company. In January 1887 the community petitioned postal authorities for a post office to be named Justin, in honor of Justin Sherman, a chief engineer with the Santa Fe Railroad. Justin once was a center of salvage companies, which buy property involved in fires and tornadoes and sell it for discounted prices.
