Elizabeth West, South Australia
Elizabeth West was a northern suburb of Adelaide, South Australia located within the City of Playford. It was established in 1955 as a satellite suburb to the Elizabeth town centre. In 1993, the northern part of Elizabeth West was merged with Elizabeth Field to form the new suburb of Davoren Park. On October 27, 2011, the remaining portion of Elizabeth West, along with some land from Penfield to its west, was combined to create the new suburb of Edinburgh North. The northern part of Elizabeth West, located north of Womma Road, was primarily residential, while the southern area, now part of Edinburgh North, was mainly industrial. The City of Playford is a local government area of South Australia in Adelaide's northern suburbs. It was named in recognition of Sir Thomas Playford, who played a part in the development of the area, and was South Australia's premier from 1938–1965. At the 2016 census, Elizabeth had a population of 1,024. Davoren Park is a suburb at the northern extent of the Adelaide metropolitan area, South Australia in the City of Playford. The suburb was formed as part of a merger between Elizabeth Field and the northern part of Elizabeth West on 11 November 1993. It is named after the Davoren family, who were early pioneers of the area. The Playford North Urban Renewal project to expand and upgrade the area commenced in 2007 and is expected to take 10–15 years. The project focuses on the ''Peachey Belt'' (an unofficial designation roughly comprising Davoren Park, Smithfield and Smithfield Plains), which has been identified as a disadvantaged area. Penfield is a northern suburb of Adelaide, South Australia, in the City of Playford. William Penfold, one of the first settlers in the area, subdivided land he had bought in the Hundred of Munno Para in 1856 to create the township of Penfield. The area was commonly known as Peachey Belt or Peachy Belt. The boundaries have changed over the years, the original township being overshadowed by the government acquisition of land immediately south of the early town centre since the 1940s for construction of military facilities such as the Penfield munitions factory. As a result, much of the modern peri-urban locality of Penfield is used for industrial purposes rather than residential and the original town centre is no longer a population centre. Womma Railway Station
Womma railway station is located on the Gawler line. Situated in the northern Adelaide suburb of Elizabeth North, it is from Adelaide station. History Womma opened in 1950. It had a small building on the platform which consisted of a shelter, with a ticket office and toilets on either side, but they were demolished in the 1980s and early 1990s. Only the shelter remains. Passengers were required to access the station via a pedestrian underpass, but it has since been closed due to concerns of safety and vandalism. There are two low-level crossings for people to reach the station. Broadmeadows Railway Station, Adelaide
Broadmeadows railway station is located on the Gawler line. Situated on the boundary between the northern Adelaide suburbs of Davoren Park and Elizabeth North, and is located from Adelaide station. History Broadmeadows opened in the 1950s, and was known as Elizabeth North railway station until 1961. It once had a ticket office and toilets either side of a shelter, but they were demolished in the 1980s, with the shelter demolished in the late 1990s or early 2000s, and replaced with a much smaller shelter. The underground pedestrian tunnel was closed and demolished in the late 1990s due to concerns of safety and vandalism.
