Elizabeth Bourchier, 4th Baroness Bourchier
Elizabeth Bourchier, 4th Baroness Bourchier (c.1399–1432) was an English noblewoman and landowner. She was the daughter of Bartholomew Bourchier, 3rd Baron Bourchier. She married twice, and both husbands acquired the title of Baron Bourchier ''in iure uxoris''. Elizabeth Bourchier's mother was the former Idonea Lovey, Bartholomew's second wife. She inherited the barony when Bartholomew died in 1409. She first married Hugh Stafford, 1st Baron Stafford, a younger son of Hugh Stafford, 2nd Earl of Stafford. The marriage took place some time before 1411, when he was first summoned to Parliament in right of the barony of Bourchier. He died in 1420. She married her second husband, Sir Lewis Robessart (died 1430), before 1425 when he was summoned to Parliament as Baron Bourchier. Sir Lewis was Chamberlain to King Henry VI of England. Bartholomew Bourchier, 3rd Baron Bourchier (died 18 May 1409) was an English baron. Family Bartholomew was the only known child of John Bourchier, 2nd Baron Bourchier, and his wife Maud Coggeshall. He inherited the title in 1400. Life He was summoned to Parliament as a member of the House of Lords the first time 9 September 1400, the year of his father's death. The title Baron Bourchier is an abeyant peerage which was created in the Peerage of England in 1342 for Sir Robert Bourchier, who had been Lord High Chancellor of England from 1340–41. The title passed through the male line until the death of the third baron in 1409 when it passed to his only daughter, Elizabeth. Upon her death in 1433, it was inherited by her cousin, Henry, who was later created ''Viscount Bourchier'' in 1446 and Earl of Essex in 1461. Baron Stafford, referring to the town of Stafford, is a title that has been created several times in the Peerage of England. In the 14th century, the barons of the first creation were made earls. Those of the fifth creation, in the 17th century, became first viscounts and then earls. Since 1913, the title has been held by the Fitzherbert family. Hugh de Stafford, 2nd Earl of Stafford, 3rd Baron Stafford, 3rd Baron Audley, KG (c. 1342 – 16 October 1386) was an English nobleman. Early life Hugh de Stafford was born around 1342, the second and youngest son of Ralph de Stafford, 1st Earl of Stafford and Margaret de Audley. His elder brother, Ralph, was intended to inherit the title and had been married to Maud Grosmont, daughter of Henry of Grosmont, 1st Duke of Lancaster, and Isabel de Beaumont in 1344, with the expectation that he would expand the Stafford estates by inheriting the Lancastrian duchy. However, Ralph died early in 1347 and Hugh became heir. Around 1358, Hugh became the 3rd Lord Audley. Hugh joined his father in the French campaigns in 1359, being part of the retinue of Edward, Prince of Wales, spending time in Gascony and northern Spain. Louis (de) Robessart (c.1390 – 27 November 1430), also known as Lewis Robessart or Robesart or Robersart or Robsart, was a knight in the service of King Henry V of England. He fought at the Battle of Agincourt in 1415. He acquired the title of Baron Bourchier by right of his wife Elizabeth Bourchier, 4th Baroness Bourchier, and died in battle against the French during the Hundred Years' War. Lewis and his elder brother Jean were the grandsons of Sir Thierry de Robessart, seigneur de d’Escaillon, whose family originated from Hainault, where Lewis was born. Thierry was engaged in the service of King Edward III of England, and later married a cousin of Constance of Castile; he is mentioned in the chronicles of Jean Froissart. Henry Bourchier, 5th Baron Bourchier, 2nd Count of Eu, 1st Viscount Bourchier, 1st Earl of Essex ( – 4 April 1483), was the eldest son of William Bourchier, 1st Count of Eu, and Anne of Gloucester. On his mother's side, he was a great-grandson of Edward III of England.
