Victoria County, Ontario
The County of Victoria, or Victoria County, was a county in the Canadian province of Ontario. It was formed in 1854 as ''The United Counties of Peterborough and Victoria'', and separated from Peterborough in 1863. In 2001, the county was dissolved and reformed as the city of Kawartha Lakes. While British settlement began in 1821, the area that was encompassed by Victoria County had already been inhabited by First Nations, including by the Wendat. Kirkfield is a village located in the city of Kawartha Lakes, in the Canadian province of Ontario. The unincorporated village was named in 1864 after the initial name, ''Novar'', was rejected by the government. A list of 8 possible choices was then offered. The village, being predominantly Scottish at the time, chose ''Kirkfield'', after Kirk' o' Field in Edinburgh. It is home to Lock 36 of the Trent-Severn Waterway, a hydraulic lift lock which connects Canal Lake and the artificially flooded Mitchell Lake. Glenarm, Ontario
Glenarm is a community in the City of Kawartha Lakes (Ontario, Canada) of about 80 people. Very few people live in the actual hamlet itself, but the community spreads about 2 km in each direction. At one time the hamlet included a general store, restaurant, church, two taverns, a blacksmith shop, dance hall and a jail, although the general store has since closed. The church, Knox Presbyterian, used to have many people attend, and now has about 60 members in its congregation. A cemetery with graves reaching back to the 1870s sits just south of the church. History Originally called Hardscrabble, the village was settled by Scottish immigrants, whose descendants still live there on many original ancestral farms. Woodville is a community in Kawartha Lakes, Ontario, Kawartha Lakes, Ontario, Canada. It is located west of Lindsay, Ontario, Lindsay. The population is 718 (2021).
