Eiði Municipality
Eiði Municipality () is a Municipalities of the Faroe Islands, municipality of the Faroe Islands. It is part of the Eysturoy region, and consists of a northwesterly part of the Eysturoy island. The municipality borders Runavík Municipality to the east and Sunda Municipality to the south and east. The population of the municipality is 777 ( Sep.2024). The mayor of the municipality is Annsy Høghamar. The municipal council consists of seven members elected every four years. The municipality contains Lake Eiði, which is situated between Eiði and Ljósá on the northwest side of Eysturoy. The Breiðá River flows nearby. Eiði power plant, the largest hydroelectricity, hydroelectric power station in the Faroe Islands, lies on the lake. The power plant opened in 1987, and is owned by the power producer and distributor SEV (company), SEV. Funningur
Funningur is a village on the Faroe Islands. It is located on the northwest coast of Eysturoy (). It was the only village in the municipality called ''Funnings kommuna'', which on 1 January 2009 became part of Runavíkar kommuna. To the west of the village rises the highest mountain in the Faroe Islands, Slættaratindur (880m), however, the summit itself is not visible from the village. History Tradition says that the first viking who settled on the Faroe Islands, Grímur Kamban, settled in Funningur. He was a Norwegian Viking escaping the tyranny of the Norse king Haraldur Hárfagri. However, this is an error in the saga, because Harald's reign was in the late 9th century, while the first Norse settlers reached the Faroes after 825. The rainbow trout (''Oncorhynchus mykiss'') is a species of trout native to cold-water tributary, tributaries of the Pacific Ocean in North America and Asia. Salmo Trutta Fario
''Salmo trutta fario'', sometimes called the river trout, is a river-dwelling freshwater predatory fish from the genus ''Salmo'' of the family Salmonidae. It is one of the three main subspecies of the brown trout (''Salmo trutta''), besides sea trout (''Salmo trutta trutta'') and the lacustrine trout ('' Salmo trutta lacustris''). Description Depending on the supply of food, river trout measure 20 to 80 cm (0.7–2.6 ft) in length; exceptionally, they may be up to 1 m (3.3 ft) long and weigh up to over 13 kg (29 lb), although they usually attain an average weight of up to 2 kg (4.4 lb). ''Salvelinus'' is a genus of Salmonidae, salmonid fish often called char or charr; some species are called "trout". ''Salvelinus'' is a member of the subfamily Salmoninae within the family Salmonidae. The genus has a northern circumpolar distribution, and most of its members are typically cold-water fish that primarily inhabit fresh waters. Many species also migrate to the sea. Most char may be identified by light-cream, pink, or red spots over a darker body. Scales tend to be small, with 115–200 along the lateral line. Sea trout is the common name usually applied to anadromous (sea-run) forms of brown trout (''Salmo trutta''), and is often referred to as ''Salmo trutta'' morpha ''trutta''. LORAN-C Transmitter Ejde
Ejde Loran-C transmitter was a Loran-C transmission facility near Eiði on the island of Eysturoy, part of the Faroe Islands. The island is located in the North Atlantic and is part of Denmark. Loran-C Loran-C is a system of hyperbolic radio navigation which developed from the earlier LORAN system. It uses low frequency signals from beacons to allow the receiver to determine their position. Conventional navigation involves measuring the distance from two known locations, radio navigation works in a similar way but using radio direction finding. Radio navigation systems use a chain of three or four transmitters which are synchronised. Each chain has a primary station and the others are called secondaries.
