Eidsborg
Eidsborg is a village in Tokke Municipality in Telemark county, Norway. The village is located about north of the village of Dalen and the lake Bandak. The village lies in a bowl-shaped valley, surrounded by forests. The 13th-century Eidsborg Stave Church is located in the village. The village is also the site of the Vest-Telemark Museum. ''Vindlausloftet'' was built around 1167 and it was originally located on the Vindlaus farm. It is now located the museum and it is the oldest secular wooden building in Norway. For hundreds of years, there was a quarry at Eidsborg. Stones were turned into whetstones and then they were transported to Skien on the ice during the winter and then loaded on ships to send to other markets. Eidsborg Stave Church
Eidsborg Stave Church () is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Tokke Municipality in Telemark county, Norway. It is located in the village of Eidsborg. It is one of the churches for the ''Eidsborg, Mo, og Skafså'' parish which is part of the Øvre Telemark prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Agder og Telemark. The brown, wooden stave church was built in a long church design around the year 1250 using plans drawn up by an unknown architect. The church seats about 70 people. Eidsborg Stave Church is one of the best preserved Norwegian stave churches. The church is located next to the Vest-Telemark Museum in Eidsborg. The church is still in use as a parish church, but it is a popular tourist site as well. Telemark
Telemark () is a Counties of Norway, county and a current electoral district in Norway. Telemark borders the counties of Vestfold, Buskerud, Vestland, Rogaland and Agder. Dalen is the administrative centre of Tokke Municipality in Telemark county, Norway. The village is located at the flat river delta where the river Tokke flows into the west end of the lake Bandak. Jørgen Moe
Jørgen Engebretsen Moe (22 April 1813–27 March 1882) was a Norwegian folklorist, bishop, poet, and author. He is best known for the '' Norske Folkeeventyr'', a collection of Norwegian folk tales which he edited in collaboration with Peter Christen Asbjørnsen. He also served as the Bishop of the Diocese of Kristianssand from 1874 until his death in 1882. Biography Jørgen Engebretsen Moe was born at the farm of Øvre Moe in the municipality of Hole in the traditional district of Ringerike. He was the son of local farmer and politician Engebret Olsen Moe. He first met Asbjørnsen while the two were preparing for exams at Norderhov Rectory and soon found they had a shared interest in folklore.
