Eduard Petzold
Carl Eduard Adolph Petzold (14 January 1815 – August 1891) was a German landscape gardener. Life Petzold was born in Lubniewice, Königswalde (Lubniewice), Province of Brandenburg, Brandenburg. As a child, he followed his parents in 1826 to Muskau, visiting the town's school and in 1828 the grammar school at Halle, Saxony-Anhalt, Halle in Prussian Saxony. In 1831, he started working at the Park von Muskau of the Prince Hermann von Pückler-Muskau, who turned out to be of great influence on his later work. 1835-38 he created his first Park at Mazańcowice, Matzdorf (Silesia). In 1844-52 he received the position of court gardener in Weimar, in 1852-1872 he returned as ''Parkinspector'' to Muskau, and was, in 1852-72, Director of Parks of the Netherlands. Michael Rohde (botanist)
Michael Rohde was a German physician and botanist. He was born on 25 July 1782, in Bremen, and died there on 28 May 1812. From 1800 to 1804 he studied natural sciences and medicine at the University of Göttingen. Following graduation, he was engaged in travels for several years in southern Germany, Austria and France. In 1809 he started a medical practice in Bremen, where he died three years later, aged 29. In 1804 he published ''Monographiae Cinchonae generis tentamen''. Altenstein Palace
Schloss Altenstein is a ''schloss'' (a German term for palace) upon a rocky hill on the south-western slope of the Thuringian Forest, not far from Eisenach, Thuringia, Germany. It was the summer residence of the Dukes of Saxe-Meiningen, and is surrounded by 160 hectares (1.6 square kilometres) of English landscape garden, which contain, among other objects of interest, a cavern 300 metres long, through which flows a large and rapid stream.
