Edoardo Mangiarotti
Edoardo Mangiarotti (; 7 April 1919 – 25 May 2012) was an Italian fencer. He won a total of 39 Olympic titles and World championships, more than any other fencer in the history of the sport. His Olympic medals include one individual gold, five team golds, five silver, and two bronze medals from 1936 to 1960, making him the most decorated Italian Olympian of all time and tied for the tenth-most decorated Olympian of all time. Fencing background Fencing is one of the original sports from the 1896 Games. Electronic scoring equipment was introduced in 1936 in the épée events when Mangiarotti won a gold medal with the other members of the Italian team. Count Edoardo Tiretta (August 1731 – 15 March 1809), often anglicized to Edward Tiretta, was a Venetian nobleman, architect and landowner. Part of Giacomo Casanova's set in Paris, he moved to Calcutta in his forties, where he worked as a civil architect, building superintendent and land surveyor. He notably built Tiretta Bazaar, which became India's first Chinatown. Early life Edoardo Tiretta was born in August 1731 in Trebaseleghe, in the modern-day Province of Padua, to a wealthy land-owning family. They owned a palace in Treviso, a villa in Montello, and numerous other properties in the countryside. He was educated as a mathematician and architect. Edoardo Sonzogno (; 21 April 1836 – 14 March 1920) was an Italian publisher. A native of Milan, Sonzogno was the son of a businessman who owned a publisher, , and a bookstore. Sonzogno owned and directed the newspaper '' Il Secolo'' from 1861 until 1909. For much of that time, its editor was Ernesto Teodoro Moneta. After inheriting his father's business, in 1874, Sonzogno opened a musical establishment, , for which he appointed Amintore Galli as its artistic director. Edoardo Scarfoglio (26 September 1860 – 6 October 1917) was an Italian author and journalist, one of the early practitioners in Italian fiction of realism, a style of writing that embraced direct, colloquial language and rejected the more ornate style of earlier Italian literature. Edoardo Sanguineti (9 December 1930 – 18 May 2010) was a Genoese poet, writer and academic, universally considered one of the major Italian authors of the second half of the twentieth century. Biography In 1956, Sanguineti published his first poetry collection, Laborintus. The author adopted a “labyrinthine” structure in these poems, preceding the poetic sperimentalism that characterized the 1960s. During the 1960s, he was a leader of the neo-avant-garde '' Gruppo 63'' movement, founded in 1963 at Solunto. His work was published in the first issue of 0 to 9 magazine in 1967. He was also an active translator of Joyce, Molière, Shakespeare, Bertolt Brecht, and select Greek and Latin authors. Edoardo Reja (born 10 October 1945) is an Italian professional football manager and former player who was most recently the manager of Slovenian club Gorica. After a career as a midfielder spent mostly with SPAL and Palermo, he began working as a manager. He won four promotions from Serie B, including as champions with Brescia (1997) and Vicenza (2000), as well as Cagliari (2004) and Napoli (2007). Reja managed Vicenza, Napoli, Lazio and Atalanta in Serie A. Playing career Reja began his career with the SPAL youth squad, coached by Paolo Mazza, playing in midfield alongside lifelong friend Fabio Capello, and other notable players such as Louis Pasetti and Adriano Zanier.
