Edith Zimmermann
Edith Zimmermann (born 1 November 1941) is an Austrian former Alpine skiing, alpine skier who competed in the 1964 Winter Olympics. She was born in Lech am Arlberg. In 1964 she won the silver medal in the downhill event. In the Alpine skiing at the 1964 Winter Olympics – Women's slalom, slalom competition she finished fifth and in the Alpine skiing at the 1964 Winter Olympics – Women's giant slalom, giant slalom contest she finished sixth. She is the sister of Heidi Zimmermann (born 1 May 1946), double medalist at the FIS Alpine Skiing World Championships 1966. Alpine skiing, or downhill skiing, is the pastime of sliding down snow-covered slopes on skis with fixed-heel bindings, unlike other types of skiing ( cross-country, Telemark, or ski jumping), which use skis with free-heel bindings. Whether for recreation or for sport, it is typically practiced at ski resorts, which provide such services as ski lifts, artificial snow making, snow grooming, restaurants, and ski patrol.
