Eddie Mercer
Eddie Mercer (born May 14, 1958) is an American former professional stock car racing driver who has previously competed in the ARCA Racing Series from 2005 to 2009. Mercer has also competed in series such as the ASA CRA Super Series, the NASCAR Southeast Series, the NASCAR Southwest Series, and the Southern All Star Super Late Model Series. He is also a former winner of the Snowball Derby, having won it in 2005. Stock car racing events in the ARCA Menards Series have been held at Salem Speedway in Salem, Indiana since 1955. The track currently hosts one race for the series, currently known as the Kentuckiana Ford Dealers 200. History ARCA (then known as MARC) first raced at Salem Speedway in 1955, with Jack Harrison (racing driver), Jack Harrison winning the inaugural race. Unfortunately, during this race, Ray Duhigg was killed when his car flew out of the track in turn 1. From 1955 to 1979, the track became a staple on the ARCA schedule, though it was left off of the series schedule in 1958, 1960, 1961, and 1978. From 1968 to 1974, ARCA held a 500-lap event at the track, named the Salem 500. The event was briefly revived in 1988 and 1989. After 1979, the series did not race at the track from 1980 to 1986. Stock car races in the ARCA Menards Series has been held at Daytona International Speedway as part of Speedweeks since 1964. The race, formally known as Daytona ARCA 200, is currently known for sponsorship reasons as the Chili's Ride the 'Dente 200. History In 1990, the race is mostly remembered of a series of accidents, including 1970 winner and 1976 Daytona 500 polesitter Ramo Stott rolling over in the middle of the track and causing a 10 car pile-up. As a result of a wreck late in the race, paramedic Mike Staley, while taking care of Kevin Gundaker, was injured after Bob Keselowski spun into Gundaker's car, thus striking him and tossing him into the air for several feet. The ARCA Menards Series is an American stock car series, the premier division of the Automobile Racing Club of America (ARCA).
