Echobelly
Echobelly are a British rock band, debuting in 1994 with their album '' Everyone's Got One''. They were often compared to Blondie and the Smiths, with Morrissey becoming a fan of the group. Career Echobelly lead singer Sonya Madan was born in Delhi, India, before moving to England at the age of two. In 1992, Madan and Johansson first met in a pub, with Sonya expressing her desire to sing in a band: "I used to sing to myself as a child. I suppose I had a secret desire to sing." They soon teamed up with bass guitarist Alex Keyser and drummer Andy Henderson, who had previously played with PJ Harvey's band. Guitarist Debbie Smith, formerly of Curve, came on board in 1994. According to the Epic Records' website, the group came up with the name Echobelly from the notion of "being hungry for something". ''On'' is the second studio album by English alternative rock band Echobelly. Gaining a favourable response from critics, the album reached number 4 in the UK Albums Chart becoming their most commercially successful album. The album spawned three top 40 singles two of which managed to reach the top 20. On 21 July 2014, a 2CD expanded edition of the album was released with B-sides and previously unreleased live performances. Album title The album title was inspired by a poster found by Echobelly members Glenn Johansson and Sonya Madan. The poster had the word "no" across it in blood red. By turning the word around, it became a positive, and the band thus decided to title the album ''On''. "King of the Kerb" is the second single from British rock band Echobelly's second album, '' On (1995)''. The song reached 25 on the UK Singles Chartand number 1 on the indie chart. Background Reflecting her fascination for wordplay, lead singer Sonya Madan titled the album ''Everyone's Got One'', with the first letter of each word spelling " EGO", a common theme throughout the album. Debbie Smith is a British guitar and bass player who has been in several bands from the 1990s to the present, including Curve, Echobelly, Nightnurse, Snowpony, Bows, SPC ECO, Blindness, The London Dirthole Company and current bands Ye Nuns, and Where We Sleep. Smith was interviewed for the 1995 book ''Never Mind the Bollocks: Women Rewrite Rock'' by Amy Raphael (published in the US as ''Grrrls: Viva Rock Divas''). Rhythm King
Rhythm King Records Ltd was a British independent record label, founded in the mid-1980s by Martin Heath, Adele Nozedar, DJ Jay Strongman and James Horrocks. It was based in Chiswick, London. History Beginnings Starting out as an offshoot of Daniel Miller's critically acclaimed Mute Records, Rhythm King's initial focus was dance music - specifically house, acid house, acid jazz, sampling culture and hip hop/rap. Curve (band)
Curve were an English alternative rock and electronic music duo from London, formed in 1990 and dissolved in 2005. The band consisted of Toni Halliday (vocals, occasionally guitar) and Dean Garcia (bass, guitar, drums, programming).
