Eccellenza Divisions
The Eccellenza (, "excellence") is the fifth level (since 2014–15) of Italy, Italian Association football, football. It is a regional league, composed of 28 divisions divided geographically. All 20 regions are represented by at least one division except for Piedmont and Aosta Valley which share 2 divisions. Veneto, Tuscany, Sicily, Emilia-Romagna and Campania also have 2 divisions each, while the regions of Lombardy and Lazio have 3 divisions. Promotion and relegation After the regular season is completed, the first-placed team for each division is automatically promoted to Serie D. Eccellenza Lombardy () is the regional Eccellenza football division for clubs in Lombardy, Italy. It is competed amongst 48 teams, in three groups (A, B and C). The winners of the Groups are promoted to Serie D. The club which finishes second also has the chance to gain promotion, they are entered into a national play-off which consists of two rounds. Italian Football League System
The Italian football league system, also known as the Italian football pyramid, refers to the hierarchically interconnected league system for association football in Italy. It consists of nine national and regional tournaments, the first three being professional, while the remaining six are amateur, set up by the Italian Football Federation. One team from San Marino also competes. The system has a hierarchical format with promotion and relegation between different divisions. Eccellenza Sardinia
Eccellenza Sardinia is the regional Italian Eccellenza football division for clubs in Sardinia and is the main football championship played on the island. Formerly called Prima Categoria and Promozione, it usually involves the participation of 17 teams. Whoever scores the most points wins the title of Regional Champion and is directly promoted to the Serie D, the highest amateur championship. The teams ranked second to fifth enter the play-offs (with a single final on a neutral field). The winner advances to the national phase, which includes inter-regional play-offs for a place in Serie D. The twelfth and thirteenth placed clubs face each other in the play-outs to decide the team that will participate in the inter-divisional play-offs against the winners of the promotion play-offs to avoid relegation.
