EUWMA
European Union of Water Management Associations (EUWMA) members are (umbrella) organizations in the European Union, EU member states representing organizations based on public law responsible for regional and local water management (flood protection, land drainage, water level management, irrigation) such as internal drainage boards or Waterschappen. At present, organizations from Belgium, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain and United Kingdom are members of EUWMA. EUWMA represents over 8.600 individual organizations, covering over 50 mln. ha. Objectives * To increase cooperation in the field of water management between the European Water Management Associations so as to provide relevant information, views, position papers, and policy documents to National Governments, the European Commission, the European Parliament and other relevant institutions. * To exchange knowledge, experiences and views between the members. Waterschappen
In the Netherlands, a water board, water council or water authority () is a regional governing body solely charged with the management of surface water in the environment. Water boards are independent of administrative governing bodies like provinces and municipalities. In general, they are responsible for managing rivers and canals, issues with the flow of watercourses and drainage issues, water collection, flood and erosion prevention and provision of potable water. They manage polder systems, water levels, water barriers and Lock (water navigation), locks, enforcements, water quality and sewage treatment in their respective regions. Association Of Drainage Authorities
The Association of Drainage Authorities (ADA) is a membership body for internal drainage boards and other stakeholders in water level management in the United Kingdom. ADA obtains and disseminates information on matters of importance and interest to members, and provides assistance on technical and administrative problems. It organises exhibitions and demonstrations, maintains a website and publishes the quarterly ADA Gazette. A new national flood risk management assets database system will greatly facilitate data transfer. Internal Drainage Board
An internal drainage board (IDB) is a type of operating authority which is established in areas of special drainage need in England and Wales with permissive powers to undertake work to secure clean water drainage and water level management within drainage districts. The area of an IDB is not determined by county or metropolitan council boundaries, but by water catchment areas within a given region. IDBs are geographically concentrated in the Broads, Fens in East Anglia and Lincolnshire, Somerset Levels and Yorkshire. In comparison with public bodies in other countries, IDBs are most similar to the ''Waterschappen'' of the Netherlands, ''Consorzi di bonifica e irrigazione'' of Italy, '' wateringen'' of Flanders and Northern France, Watershed Districts of Minnesota, United States and Marsh Bodies of Nova Scotia, Canada.
