E-segment
The E-segment is the 5th category of the European segments for passenger cars, synonymous with the term executive car. E-Segment is a niche in Europe (2-3% penetration in 2010s). As of 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020, E-segment sales account for 2.7%, 2.7%, 2.3% and 2.1% market share in Europe respectively. Characteristics Most E-segment cars are sedans/saloons, however several models are also produced in other body styles such as wagons/estates and hatchbacks. European vs. American classification The terms E-segment or executive car do not have a one-to-one equivalent in the American car classification. BMW 8 Series (G15)
The second-generation of the BMW 8 Series consists of the BMW G14 (convertible version), BMW G15 (two-door coupe version) grand tourers and BMW G16 (four-door "Gran Coupe" sedan version) executive car ( E). The G14/G15/G16 generation has been in production since 2018, and is often collectively referred to as the G15. It is the successor to the BMW 6 Series (F06/F12/F13) range and marks the return of the BMW 8 Series nameplate after nearly two decades, which was previously produced as the E31 until its discontinuation in 1999. The G15 is powered by turbocharged six-cylinder petrol, six-cylinder diesel and V8 petrol engines, mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. Executive car is a British term for a large car which is equivalent to the European E-segment and American full-size classifications. Executive cars are larger than compact executive cars (and the non-luxury equivalent mid-size cars), and smaller than luxury saloons / full-size luxury sedans. The term has also been adopted by Euro NCAP, a European organization founded to test for car safety. F-segment
The F-segment is the 6th category and largest of the European segments for passenger cars, and always belongs to " luxury cars". The equivalent categories are full-size luxury sedan (or "large luxury sedan") in the United States, luxury saloon (or "luxury limousine") in the United Kingdom, and Oberklasse in Germany. Extended-wheelbase limousines and armored sedans are also considered as F-segment. F-segment is a niche of the European market (approximately 0.2–0.3% in the 2010s) and the range is limited to only a few models. Characteristics Most F-segment cars use a sedan body style, however some have been produced as wagons/estates or have a hatchback rear door. Extended wheelbase variants of these cars are common, as many of the luxury features are placed for the rear-seat occupants. Mercedes-Benz E-Class (W213)
The W213 Mercedes-Benz E-Class is the fifth-generation of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class. Sold from 2016 (as a 2017 model), it is the successor to the W212/S212 E-Class models. The coupe/convertible models share the same platform as the sedan/wagon, in contrast to the previous generation. The Mercedes-Benz CLS (initially called the CLS-Class) is a series of executive cars produced by Mercedes-Benz since 2004. The original model was a four-door fastback sedan based on the E-Class platform, marketed as a four door coupé. An estate (Shooting Brake) model was later added to the model range with the second generation CLS. All models are available as a high performance AMG variant, although it wasn't until the second generation CLS that 4MATIC all-wheel drive was offered.
